high revving first gear...

yeah, i have an auto...when i leave it in normal drive, the first gear tends to rev a bit higher than it did previously before shifting into 2nd..im starting to worry about this so now im driving in the manual mode...is this an early tranny problem?...all the other gears rev fine...

well, nothing too drastic...like around 4000rpm...but it just seems to hang onto first...its only started doing that this week...i guess im just worried about every little change it makes...

Two reasons:

In colder weather, in the beginning, it seems to move the shift points higher than usual. This is presumably to warm up the engine. I don't know if this is true though, this is seat of pants impression.

Also, if you drive aggressively, it will learn the driving style and will keep the shift points higher. Mine regularly shifts around 4K, but that's because I like to put my right foot down.

Starting in first, try modulating the throttle pressure. Try starting relatively gently, grandma or a soccer mom style. See if it still holds it to 4K or whether it shifts at 2.5-3K.

astral has it right....
this is gonna sound weird... have you bought new shoes recently, recently had a service?
possibility they tightened your cable a bit, or your shoes give a different feeling to the car

Or could it be that it's probably just the x'mas/new year holiday weight you gained on your right foot? :D

How many miles do you have on the car?? Some cars the ECU tuned conservatively til you hit the break-in point. I'm not sure if this is the case with the Pro5

well, i did have an oil change recently but the car drove fine even after then...sometimes i do drive a bit agressively, but when this occurs is when im driving conservatively...same ol' shoes too...this only started this week so i really doubt its the christmas/new year weight...oh yeah, the car is somewhere around 5600 miles...

Should be no biggie...

I notice it happening to me early in the morning leaving for school. Good as new on the ride home.

if you want it to shift earlier, let off the gas and press it again, it should go into 2nd by itself(obviously dont floor it or it will drop into 1st again)...

Yeah, cars with auto transmission and ECU's that learn your driving style do things like this. It's usually a gradual change.

You could always reset the ECU by disconnecting the (-) battery cable and pumping the brakes, waiting a few minutes, then reconnecting the cable. That will clear the ECU's memory and should force it to re-learn your driving habits.

Of course, if you're really concerned about it, take it to the dealer under warranty.
