HELP! Why is it bucking?

yeah, mine recently got stuck in the CLOSED position. It would keep boosting, which I enjoyed until I realized there was a problem lol. I got it warrantied tho

I had this problem on my MSP a few months ago. For me it was a torn diaphragm in the WG actuator. Mazda can get the actuator alone but some dealers are not aware of this. My dealer was going to order the entire turbo assembly before I gave them the part number for the actuator. Pretty easy to identify, the WG actuator should hold pressure and you should not be able to continuously blow into the vacuum line running to it.

it might be a faulty wastegate, it's not opening enough and is letting the turbo build too much boost. the bucking is from fuel cut.... i would get your car checked out asap. just don't go into full boost.

But could that just happen over night w/ no warnings?

mine drove fine in the morning & then I left that evening & it did it all of a sudden...so yes

Definately sounds like a wastegate issue. I have read many instances where this has happened.

Don't even let it get into boost!! New motor will be much more of an inconvenience.

I know all about inconvenience my car was in the body shop for one month for smacking a curb. $3,600.00 in damage

Having the wastegate stuck open is a common problem, but that would mean you could build very little or no boost. Having the it stuck closed (so boost continues to build) is not a very common problem.

First just replace your wastegate vacume lines. If the line to the wastegate is broken it won't ever open and your boost will just go up and up.

The stock lines get really brittle over time and easily crack. Some common places for it to break:
- T fitting that leads off to stock BPV - the T fitting is plastic and cracks easily.
- 90 degree fitting at wastegate connection (where line attaches to wastegate)
- 90 degree fitting where it starts at the intake manifold.
- Line itself can dry out close to the turbo/wastegate. When changing a friend's intake I touched his and it split in hlaf in my hand.

Definately change all the vacume lines leading to the wastegate (1 line but split into 2 parts)

thank you for all the info

Yea well its very frustrating plus no shops around here know much about them. Was your problem the wastegate acctuator?

Im guessing you have no warranty? You might ahve to have Mazda fix it either way

Thats what I'm afraid of. I'm guessing I'll have to get ripped off.

what is this bucking thing that you all are talking about so that I can make sure my car doesn't do the same.

Yeah when u really get into it it will feel like the car is trying to throw u out of the windshield. It kinda feels like you are constantly hitting redline when really u aren't

Right when your engine is making the most power, it will suddenly cut off. This is called fuel cut. It happens when the ECU sees too much air coming through the MAF(mass air flow sensor). It is basically a built in protection for your motor, to stop it from producing more power than your connecting rods can handle. If you are not using a boost controller and your car is not heavily modded and in proper working order then you should not have to worry about it.

Where did you tap into for your boost gauge? Just a question?? It could be something really simple.....

I wish I knew but I didn't do it. But I've had it in there for about 2 years and this problem just started about 3 months ago.
