2008 Mazda 3 sedan speed:)
i have a plain 2.0 mazda 3 and i was thinking about swapping the motor for a speed engine. which would be better in the long run, buy a mazdaspeed motor and out it in or build up my motor? i know next to nothing about cars so all help is appreciated! thanks!

if you know next to nothing about cars, neither of those options are good for you. If you want to pay someone, build up your motor, either way its not an easy project, but for about 5000-8000 your mazda can be built right with a turbo kit.

A lot of people in that situation just buy a speed3 because its meant to be turboed, more reliable, and cheaper.

Whatever you end up doing good luck, and enjoy your mazda.

well i though about it but i like my mazda. and i planned on having a shop do it just didnt know which would be a "better bang for my buck"

speed3 swaps you dont see because of how expensive and time consuming it is. You virtually need all the oem ms3 parts to handle the engine and all the wire harnesses and the ecu as well, and even then it still may not work properly.

Your better off building your engine, upgrading your suspension wheels brakes and then go turbo
Your looking at give or take
suspension upgrades 900-2000(depending on what you get)
Wheels and tires-1000
Brakes- 500ish
Engine and turbo-at least 4000 and up
then tack extensive labor on top of that

okay, and im sorry i dont mean to sound like a dumb ass but how do i know which parts would be the better choice..

for what? your best bet is to start doing some searching around these and ************ forced induction sections and suspension sections and start reading up and learning about all these parts and the pros and cons.

If you dont plan on working on your car yourself, i dont recommend turboing your 3, as they are not cheap or easy to deal with sometimes when going F/I, and the labor would be rediculous. Im not pushing you away from the idea if thats really what you want to do, im just letting you know turbo kits on 3s are not cheap and if you dont have mechanical skills it might not be a good project to start.

Start with the suspension thats the strongest point in the 3 and a set of coilovers and a rear sway bar will make your car a blast to drive with some decent tires

Well I have some mechancial skills I'm going to school for it so I'm learning and I know some really good mechanics, one who actually is on a racing team. So if not a turbo, what else could give my car a nice kick

rear motor mount from cpe. You wont see any huge gains with performance mods unless you spend the big bucks on f/i. I/e/h will give you a decent gain of like 15-20 depending but cost close to 1200

Sorry seems to me its cheaper to trade it in and buying something faster if youre wanting a better bang for your buck.

haha ok, well its been on there for a while and it was pretty cheap so i wont be to crushed if it has to come off

If you're serious about a turbo'd MZ3, I would just do what sanblaster said.
It's much more cost effective and safe to get a real MS3 that has a 2.3L meant to be boosted.
