I purchased a red top battery and when I went to install it the ignition fuse blew out. I've replaced the fuse and it happened again. Do I have a short somewhere? Any answers? Thanks.

Sounds like you do have a short. Why did you install the Optima? Did you have a problem or symptom before?

I doubt this is it, but when I put the yellow top in my old Honda, like a dumbass I didnt realize that the positive and negative posts were backwards from the original batteries. Just a thought.

Yeah, I was going to mention that, but hoped he knew that already. On a rare chance, check the polarity of the battery. I have seen one that was completely backward! Did not blow the fuse, but the car cranked backwards, took 6 hours to figure out.

Thanks. I had the battery connected correctly. I was told that maybe it's not grounded properly....Still don't see that being the case.

I don't remeber but I do not recall an optima being a drop in procedure. Typicly you need new battery terminals and new connections.

Did you?

Optima's have top and side mounts so they fit in any car

Not if the factory terminals don't reach either set.
That would be true! Just never had that problem yet and put in lots of them in different cars, but yes I quess that could be a problem.

Do you have the classic size or one of the new ones?
Its about 2 yrs old so I'm guessing classic. The new ones are bigger correct? Or one of the styles is bigger and the normal one is smaller.

I got mine about 8 months ago.. red top from costo.. $90 .. dropped right in.
