Help please--my LSD blew...

got the new Spec Stage2 and LSD in and feels great. The Spec is actually easier to engage (clutch pedal physically has less resistance) than my stock one, but I won't *really* know how it feels until 500 easy-drivin' miles have been put on it.

As for the diff, it pulls straight as an arrow under heavy throttle (i.e. no torque steer) so that pretty much eliminates any remaining doubt I would have about it being an LSD.

congrats man, hope u changed ur mind on leaving it...what a bad one you went through, but looks like with Ken, your shop, and the forum's support everything worked itself out. good to have ya back!

So there was absolutely no problem with the LSD Ken provided. This is the one which was welded and you put in?

Just trying to clear up the situation.

I still think all the posts with incorrect information and skepticism should be removed.

yes everything is in order

mazda would like me to clear out the remaining revised LSDs in stock - i have them reduced price on the site for anyone that wants one or will take offers on the remaining stock

So please help me, I am confused...

okay one of my best friends (she doesn't know anything about cars except what i tell her...) has a 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege,
does that mean she has the LSD that will eat itself or is she safe with the revised one?

She has been thinking of trading the car in to get a Mazdaspeed6, but I have been telling her to keep the Protege since it is really a sweet car...

Thanks,
Jordan

Tricky question. The LSD may be fine forever, just as easily it may let go at any time. To be sure it doesn't go, people remove them and get them welded...

my employee's MSP just lost its stock LSD. it has an intake mani, hiboost fmic and injen and boosts 5psi (wtf, i know - low!) and he babies it.

Doesn't really matter at what boost it's running these things just let go sometimes. I had one go at 0psi so it really doesn't matter what boost your at. Other people have been running 14-17 psi and are still on the original.

ya but not all mazdaspeeds have the same problems, and no one knows if there's will have any problems at all. theres been people that have boosted 15 psi for over a year on a stock motor and they were fine, and the same with the lsd, some have lasted 80,000+ miles and theyre still fine!! the msp just breaks when it wants to!

I had very few problems the first 100k miles. I broke my LSD at around 103k miles and I was boosting 15PSI for 3+ years. I had to buy a diff directly from Mazda via Turfburn and he haded it welded. I know it was an LSD as it was exactly like my existing stock LSD just not broken :)
Good luck and there is NO WAY IN HELL I would take an open diff they would shove that idea right up there asses.

My 03 had the revised version and it too a s***. It took 3+ years to do it, 15PSI and over a 100k miles but it was revised and it came apart so hers could die maybe tomorrow. :)

Mazda is not trying to substitute open diffs for broken LSDs.

That is 100% mis-information.

I did not have any trouble getting one (first)

eliminated any remaining doubt this past week. Once the clutch had 500+ miles on it, I laid a small patch of rubber on the pavement and 2 tire marks remained :)
