All of a sudden (at 80.000 Kilometros) there is no camera image when moving either in reverse or forwarward and pressing "view" button on the control buttons lower left produces no image. I can see other images on the screen such as Waze with no problem so do I have something set wrong or need service at Mazda? Issue just occured today..

Wel camera is back. No idea why it went away briefly.

Hm.

Had that sort of thing occur a couple of years back. Shifted into reverse, but the rear-camera view didn't appear. Wouldn't for a few cycles (of drive, reverse). But then it decided to suddenly work, later that day. No idea why it didn't work, or start working. And it hasn't occurred again, since.

Perhaps something in the shifting mechanism, where a sensor doesn't quite function correctly. In my case, I do a bit of shifting in manual mode. Not excessive, but it might well have been enough (this past ~9yrs) to have caused some sensor in there to begin to give up the ghost. (A bit like the brake sensor beginning to go wonky, causing inability to shift the lever out of "P".) Haven't had the console/dash apart, yet, but it might be worth adding this to the "check it out" list, if ever I have need to get in there.

It's always something, eh?

You may have a failing / faulty front camera.

I found this out the hard way. Apparently, someone backed into the front camera on my CX-5 SG. Before realizing this all my cameras stopped working. No backup camera/the View button did nothing. I couldn't figure it out. The damage to the front camera was barely noticeable and once I saw it, I knew that was the root cause (no clue why one broken camera would cause the others not to work). It happened when I parked on the street. Someone's vehicle must have backed right into the camera. Nothing else was damaged.

The dealer wanted over a grand to replace it. I bought the camera and did it myself. It took a lot of guts because I only had 15k miles on my CX-5 and the replacement required removing the entire front bumper.

Anyway, job done and all video restored. So based on this I would say something might be problematic with yours.

I had that problem a few years back with my '14. It ended up being the wiring harness connector to the camera in the rear hatch. I disconnected it, sprayed with electronic lube and reconnected it. Problem solved. Simple fix you might want to try first.
