A few months ago, I bought a used Magnaflow catback because I'd heard from a number of people that it sounded really nice and I got a good deal on it. Well, I instaled it at the same time as my OBX header and MAM midpipe, removing all my catalytic converters. The midpipe didn't fit with the magnaflow quite perfect and so there was a pretty damn big leak directly under the front seats, but with beaus help and advice, I got it solved pretty quickly. The whole time I had the exhaust installed and was hearing the nasty farting, buzzy sound, I hoped it was just the leak. Like I said, I got the leak fixeed, and it still sounded/sounds horrible. So I'm getting a new exhaust.

My question is, who here has run an aftermarket catback without any cats? Not neccesarily on a P5, but on any protege, any price, that just sounds good. Custom is fine too, jsut let me know the brand of muffler you have. Thanks in advance.

That buzzing sound you are hearing is from the header, not the exhaust.

I've heard other cars with the OBX header on a stock exhaust, and they dont sound like ass. I mean my car sounds 100% completely horrible. I'm ashamed to go WOT around other people.

Oh....mine sounds sounds fine above 3000 RPM.

It doesn't sound so good at the lower RPM's however....I hear the exhaust pulses. I've heard since these headers have much thinner metal than the stock one, that it will amplify the sound of the engine.

No no no, it's definatly not exhaust pulses, it's the same nasty fart sound you hear on Hondas the world over.

hmmm...I have the RB cat-back which sounds very nice with the header, although I still have the stock cat.....I could send you a small vid of me revving it if you want.

thats catless... put the mid pipe back on. Or a resonator.

possibly exhaust gasket doughnut was damaged in installation creating a leak. it is pretty delicate. this is between header and mid pipe fyi

I've fixed all the leaks, trust me. Corwin, you think a resanator would fix this, or do I need a cat?

high flow would prolly do the job better, no promises.

I can only imagine how bad it is. Right now I have the Magnaflow too. I love it w/the OBX header combo. Although if I take it to around 80 mph, the droning is so loud I develop a slight headache. Midpipe I can guess would be that way throughout the rpm range.

Miller, can you get a sound clip for us? I'll try to get a clip of my exhaust as well...

I'm not sure. I dont think I know anyone with a digi cam with sound. But I'll see what I can do. Oh and it doesn't drone. On the freeway I can barely hear it. I mean, if I turn my radio all the way down and roll up the windows, I have to concentrate to hear it.

It just buzzes like crazy under hard acceleration. I might just wait until Monday when I have the WOMP installed to see if it gets any better(laugh)

I had that same problem, and I put a resinator on and it fixed the buzzing.

I am running with OBX headers, corksport exhaust, and no cats and I think it sounds great. It is loud but thats about it.
