HELP: How to track down cause of wind noise

Hello Everyone!

I'm hoping some here have had experience in tracking down/determining the cause of wind noise and can offer me suggestions on how to go about at least tracking down the cause so I can determine if I can correct it or if I should take it in to the dealership.

I'd go to the dealership and have them look at it, but in all honesty I doubt they'd find anything and then I'll be billed $100/hr for their time. At least if I can track it down and it comes down to something (e.g. door, window) requiring adjustment that should (better! :) ) be covered under warranty.

Anyways, here's the situation...

We have a high-pitched whistling sound when we are driving over 65km/h (around 40/45 mph). This occurs with all windows shut, doors firmly closed, moonroof closed and even the moonroof blind shut.

When I'm in the front passenger seat it sounds as if it is coming from the windshield off center towards the driver's side. I have not noticed any water leakage into the car from the windshield (either by flooding with a garden hose, pressure washer or one of those drive through high pressure automated washing stations).

Now, when I'm in the driver's seat the sound seems to be more localized outside the door, but also out in front of me as well.

I've used a air compressor (we have a pretty powerful one here at work that drives lots of air equipment) and have run the air around the door seals, moonroof seals, windshield, around various trim, etc. and have not heard the sound. So I assume it is just not pushing enough volume of air to create the whistling noise.

I have had the door seals replaced with those new (and much better) J-seals so my guess is maybe they (dealership) neglected to adjust the doors given the new seals and maybe there is some misalignment... maybe. Or perhaps the seal on our windshield has been slightly compromised and is letting just enough air through to cause this annoying sound.

Is there anything I can do to help track it down before forking over money to a dealership that'll likely say they can't find anything and therefore it's not warranty and I'm looking at $100-$200 for nothing?

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer! :)

ok well as long as your not just hearing the turbo lol cause that would just be hilarious.

my friends sun roof does the same thing...at the same exact speed to. so i would make sure to check that

Well, it turns out to be the weatherstripping on the door. It's being replaced under warranty next Monday. I sure hope that does it, because it is soooo annoying.

Thanks for the suggestions.
