99 mazda protege
I have a 99 protege lx with a 1.6 ltr. Filled up a week ago and I'm already on E and I'm only getting 18 miles to the gallon. The only thing I've done so far is add a c/a Intake with the sensor right behind the filter Any help would be great.

How long has it been since your spark plugs, wires, and coils have been changed? If they're getting old you can start with that stuff.
You could also check your tires to see if they're under inflated or over inflated.

I just replaced spark plugs and got 2 new tires so all of that is good.

That's funny because I have a 2000 LX with the 1.6 and I got 16.8 mpg last time with perfect tire pressure, band new plugs and wires PVC valve and I cleaned the Egr ports. I do have a slight misfire because of a faulty coil pack but the misfire is only at idle. Not sure why I'm getting MPGs like I own a v8.

Maf sensor should be further down the pipe from the filter, when its right at the filter its not getting a good reading due to the turbulence of the air coming in.even if your check engine light isn't on get a code reader and see if its throwing any
