Hi all,
thought i'd introduce myself, I go by Marchy and I'm the proud owner of a 2003 P5 named the silver surfer. I picked it up this past spring as a replacement for my wife's 08 focus coupe. The focus was a nice reliable vehicle but the seats were terrible and we needed something bigger. One of my good friends was looking to trade up to a CX5 but the dealer was really lowballing him on the p5 trade-in value. Knowing that my wife has always loved the p5 i was able to beat the dealers offer and picked up the car for dirt cheap.
The car had 143k miles when i bought it and on the ride home I could tell the motor mounts were shot and the OEM clutch was on its last legs and i needed some new tires. I did some research, and picked up the AWR motor mount set, I also picked up an exedy clutch and i can't remember which flywheel from amazon. Normally i'd have installed these myself but wasn't able to coordinate a time to use my buddies lift so I paid a shop to deal with it. Kinda glad i did as they ran into a snag during the motor mount installation.
The car drove so much nicer after these but about a month later a P0420 CEL kept showing up. Since the car was seeing about 25MPG freeway I figured that the O2 sensors were on their way out so picked them up from Rockauto and treated my wife to a birthday present and got her a corksport exhaust and some tint. (she had been asking for a better sounding exhaust and to get rid of the fishbowl feeling while driving). This time i was able to secure my buddies lift and went to work. The install was pretty easy and the car is running like a top getting better fuel mileage than before with a best tank of 37MPG going from Seattle to eastern washington and back. The corksport exhaust sounds amazing, deep rumble and pretty aggressive when you're on the gas but not in a buzzy way at all. It might be a bit loud without the silencer for some but on longer roadtrips i just put the silencer back on and its perfect.
how bout a few pictures
picture of the bad O2 next to a new one
and as she sits now after some tint
Next up is just simple stuff, roof rack, some wheels and once the suspension goes out some coil overs.
