Ok MSP gurus, got a good question for ya. My MSP runs like the devil for the first 5 minutes or so after a cold start. But after the engine warms up to normal operating temp, the power falls off a bit, most noticably from 2nd gear on. Now before you dismiss this as heatsoak, consider the following:
-- Circuit Sports SMIC installed
-- Spool CAI installed
-- Flashed ECU
-- Stock boost
Before I had upgraded the SMIC, I blamed the warmed-up power drop on the crap stock IC unit. With the Circuit Sports unit, the car pulls harder for sure, but power still drops off after the engine warms up. This is true regardless of the outside air temp. I do not believe the upgraded SMIC is heatsoaking as the lower tube feels nice and cool even after a hard run. I do notice that when the engine is cold (for that wonderfull few minutes) that I don't hear the whistle (from the wastegate, I believe), but then when the engine warms up and I get on the boost and push the car, it starts whistling dixie.
I love the way the car runs before the engine warms up. But after that, it seems almost like a NA Protege. I'm thinking maybe it's the ECU, and that the Unichip or DSMConvert A/F controller would be the fix, but hell if I know. I can see how the ECU would factor in air intake temp, but does it factor in engine operating temp? Cause the latter "seems" to be the performance killer in my case. Or is it that the AIT, even with a CAI, increases with the drive, and that the ECU can't cope?
Any thoughts??
