Headers and exhaust mods....

I was talking with a friend about installing a header and modifing my present exhaust. He told me that it was illegal to run a header as they wouldn't pass as emission rated equipment. Now I know a few of you guys have put headers on your ride, as well as aftermarket cat backs, so my question is: have you had any problems with your state's emmisions program (my state being Pennsylvania)? My second question is this: does anyone know what the 2001 MP3 stock exhaust is (diameter and such). I know it is tuned by racing beat, but I am talking more that just the Racing Beat muffler. The reason I am asking is because I don't want to drop a load of cash on a new exhaust system if the one I already have isn't going to give me more HP, and even more importantly, if installing a new exhaust system (and header) will give me a headache at the emissions station!(dunno)

Alright. Two Sids in PA? This s*** has got to stop! You will be fine with a cat-back. The thing they're really looking for is that you retain the facory EMISSIONS equipment (cats and related sensors). For this there are a few options. You could find a shop that won't notice that your car came with two cats and therefore won't give you any problems. You could get the new shorty header from Wagner Motorsports that retains both cats (they also have a high-flow downpipe/cat combo). Or, you could say screw it, install a full-length header and swap back to the factory set-up for inspection.

or just check out wagnermotorsports they have a shorty header that will pick up some good power (not as good as a full length header) but it will retain the stock primary cat. i had a shorty header on my mp3 and everybody that drove the car could feel a difference

So to run a full length header that is emission safe I would have to invest in an entire aftermarket exhaust set up...hmmmm. What do you guys suggest for a good aftermarket cat back? I went to wagner's site to see their shorty header and I didn't see it listed, any1 have a price on it? I would like some more power but I dont want my ride to sound like a 'ghetto buzz-bomb'!!!!! You know what I mean, like the guy who has a 97 Berreta and puts the APC universal performance muffler on it and then proceeds to rev his junker to redline at every stoplight( you all have one of these guys in your town)....oh, and I cant forget the 'CHEVY' sticker on the windsheild and the APC spoiler......lol. That is real tuning performance there...woohoo(blarf)

check out the project section at wagners website... he is working on updating the products page... email him for pricing.

There is a thread about his header in the Vendors forsale section.
