I was thinking about buying a header for my 03 protege 5 and was wondering if it would mess with the 02 sensors and make my car run bad if i put one on

It will trigger a CEL unless you take measures found by using the search function to eliminate the CEL. I'd go with the mechanical fix rather than the electrical fix.

wow, you've only been on here one month more then the op and you're calling him the newbie... that comment was not needed...

anyways, 'oneslowp5', a new header that eliminates the cat will still have two o2 sensor plugs and you can put a non-fouler on the second one in order to pass emissions, there should be more when you search non-fouler too.

good luck

yea you should enlist yourself in such a program. GTFO of here.

even with the non fouler i get the cel every now and then. nothing that cant be erased. i do wonder though, how would i know its time to actually change the o2 sensor? sorry for the slight jack

I've been running the non-fouler on my OBX for about 2 years now. Never a CEL.

I've been running non-fouler for over 3 1/2 yrs on OBX header with no CEL & no inspection issues.

How about giving the instigating newbie some infarctions for all the trouble he went thru jerking off in this thread.

And here I was thinking that it only elliminated the CEL.
My biggest fear is, of course, inspection as I live in CA.
Does anyone know if, upon them seeing the headers, they would fail me?
Could I pull a "yes, they're aftermarket, but they're legal" story if they ask, or will they not say anything?

Before you go get inspected, put the factory manifold back on. I can have it swapped out in about an hour or so.

Which non-fouler are you guys running? Theres two of them....
Non fouler are the 2 spark plug things that you drill one out with 1/2 inch bit for sensor to clear when stacked together. The other an electrical CEL fix with some resistor or something added to the wiring.

I live in TX, they looked under the hood for awhile scratching heads, shrugging shoulders then just hooked computer up & put sticker on it since all the readings passed.

I Know what they are. Im asking which ones the people in this thread are using since its working for some people and not for others. Ive read through both threads and some say thiers works and others dont just getting as much info as i can before i install my header. OBX ftw
