Such an easy thing to do. Applied 4 coats. One every half hour. Painters taped it all off and bagged the car and exhaust with cardboard down for extra protection. Had to score the tape edge at some points where it curved to get a clean line but came off nice for the most part. Waited 5 hours before i drove it. Seems to be holding up very well. I LOVE the way it looks. debating doing the lip above the license plate with the keyhole on it as well.

What you guys think?!?

Omg, I'm so jealous right now!

I've been contemplating doing this forever now, and I will definitely be doing it now!

Looks AMAZING!

Thanks so much! :D I love it. It totally gives it a much more aggressive look. I can't help walking behin the back of my car when I get out with this silly smile plastered to it :D I've been wanting to do this since before i even had the car. I say go for it! Best part is that if you don't like it you can just peel it off! Best $5 ive ever spent at Lowes.

Ooo! I'm planning to do this tomorrow, quick question did you sand it first? Also what is plastidip? Just paint?
Thinking of clear coating mine... Not sure yet yours makes me like the matte black

Nope I didn't sand it. You don't have to.

Also, plastidip is not a paint. It's technically a plastic "protective coating". I had to look all over just to find it. Don't go to Ace Hardware or an auto store because they have no clue what this stuff is and they'll look at you like you have 2 heads. Try Lowes or Home Depot first.

And no I didn't clear coat it. But I am contemplating it. If you are going to do it I'd get a can of rustoleum clear enamel in matte or semi gloss. I like the matte though because nothing is very glossy on our cars and I have the trunk step guard which is matte too.

Let me know how it goes tomorrow. Feel free to share your pics in here! Oh and ps get the thicker painters tape the thin kind sucks.

just found this thread and i gotta say the car is looking great. but where were you yesterday? the bbq was great

Thanks for all the positives guys. Bullshark. I ended up relaxing with my boyfriend and we did work on our cars. Hence the painted valence and he installed some gauges on his Mazda3. I'm glad you had a good time with those that showed To the BBQ. Maybe we'll catch eachother at another event. I wish there were more p5's around the area, or just proteges for that matter lol.

MP5 Kyle were you by any chance at the Orange County Choppers All Mazda Meet 2 years back?

ah gotcha maybe i'll see you at a meet. how often do you go to the meets? and i know what you mean about wanting more proteges. i see some around but none of them modded

BullShark, i usually go every other week or so, it varies.
Kyle, well congrats on having an awesome first car.
And yeah, the OCC meet is a sight to see. There are some other guys with mazdas that come down from the Ontario region for that meet too. Hence i asked if you went, i thought i had met you 2 years back, but alas i did not. lol

cant wait to see pics of everything installed.

Installed my DIY engine bay dress up kit on tuesday.
Got the idea from the GI/GB thread listed a few months ago, but got impatient and decided to do it myself.
It's so easy that i don't know why more people don't just do it themselves!

What I Used:
Dupli-Color Metalcast Spray Paint (I Chose MC200 Red Anodized)
Krylon Crystal Clear Spray Paint (I Chose Clear Gloss)
#12 Stainless Steel Finishing Washers
20mm Stainless Reverse Cone Flat Head Machine Bolts (I Chose Phillips Head Over Hex)
16mm Stainless Reverse Cone Flat Head Machine Bolts (I Chose Phillips Head Over Hex)

Note:
There is a 7 day curing period on the metalcast spray paint, plan a week ahead.
Also you probably don't need to put a clear coat on them but i figured it couldn't hurt!
