Long Story short......I had a couple of girls cleaning my car the other day and when I went to pick my car up from their house my hatch wouldn't open. My question is if there is some sort of switch they could have bumped that would have prevented the hatch from opening correctly. If not then how do I get it open. I have three 12" subs that take up all the space so I really can't crawl back. Thanks

Can you hear the lock cycling when you hit the unlock button?

question: did you try popping the latch from the inside or manually unlocking it and opening it with the key?

I don't own a 3 but one time I flicked a plastic switch on the trunk latch itself that made it so the trunk wouldn't open using the lever on the inside but would if I used a key. I think it was some sort of security thing, like for a valet or something. I freaked out at first because it was within a week of getting the car and I thought I had broken it =). Just a thought.

The Hatch has no keyhole. It is supposed to lock and unlock with the doors. Mazda put a little mechanism on the inside of the hatch door hiding behind a flap that lets you manually unlock it if something jams/breaks... but it sounds like Split's access to it is blocked.

Split: I'd reccomend finding some way to get the subs out of the front if you can... that seems like the only way of getting your hatch open and it seems like something is gonna have to be fixed at the dealer anyways.

the hatchback DOES have a keyhole if the car doesn't have keyless entry.... which is something not sold in north america

it pisses me off to no end that every car company out there lately have cheaped out on the simplest s***... like keyholes.... there's only ONE keyhole and that's the driver's door... if the s*** gets ****** or your remote dies, you're up s*** creek!

it seems as if the hatch may have a arm mechanism that has become unattached. When I press the unlock button you can hear something but there is no functionality. I guess I have to take the subs out of the car which sucks because it is a pain in my ass and I dont have that much spare time to be f'in with stupid teadeous s*** like this.

well... take the sub out and then bring the car to the stealership... why waste time fixing something that can be done for free? ;)

you think the stelaership will fix the latch even if my original warranty is over. I have an extended warranty but I am thinking that they won't honor something like a latch. Thanks

Wow... five months later and you still haven't fixed it? (boom07)

If your extended warranty is "Bumper to Bumper", then they'll fix it. If it's powertrain only, then you're SOL.
