hard idle and cant stay on

:
mazda protege speed
My Protege idles real hard and can't stay on. I changed the spark plugs and wires and cleaned thee maf sensor and I was told I need a new air idle control valve so I bought a used air idle control valve and it wouldn't even stay on for a second but with my old air idle control valve it stays on for a while before it turns off. Need help fixing the hard idle

if you are completely stock, double check your intercooler hose clamps. When I was stock, I had a similar problem and the clamp on my cold pipe had loosened just enough to affect my idle. Other than that, check to see if any hoses are lines are cracked/broken.

edit: welcome to the forum

Have you done anything recently to the car? Is the MAF installed the right way (little arrow on the side points towards the engine). Could be bad coil packs, you replaced the two wires on the VC but did you replace the two other coil pack 'boots'?
