HI! I'm new! Can you tell? Well if not, now you know!

Hello all,

I just signed up on the forum and am just a tiny bit excited (in case my antics didn't give it away) to find a Boston area Mazda forum.

I've been looking in what feels like an endless series of tubes for fellow enthusiasts and I stumbled across this forum.

I'm relatively new to the Boston area. Moved to the GBA almost 3 years ago now from Fairbanks Alaska in my 2000 Mazda Miata. Before I moved here I was heavily involved in what motorsport Alaska had to offer. Which means 3 months out of the year you get to drive you convertible!

We primarily raced on abandoned WWII airfields (legally) and the occasional deserted highway to nowhere(it's all on Federal land so no one lives there and or cares).

The car culture there is made up of a diverse eclectic group of radical Anarcho-Libertarian coffee drinking insomniacs (lots of daylight) who all carry guns but own a Subaru or two for a daily driver(fun for all bring the kids).

Soo Boston has been a very different very expensive experience. I'm definitely feeling the force of the rat race and definitely looking to get back into some autox and or other armature motorsport.

We just picked up a 2004 RX8 Grand Touring this summer as a DD and I have to say Mazda is a great company for real people who like exciting inexpensive transportation.

While work keeps me very busy I hope have the opportunity to meet some fellow enthusiasts. I have a fair amount of knowledge about cars in general and have always worked on and modified my own cars.

The best part about being into cars is hanging out in a fellow enthusiasts garage as one or more monumental tear downs and or projects is underway. Really nothing more rewarding than drinking a beer or two with a healthy layer of grit under ones fingernails after a long day of vehicular shenanigans.

Anyway before I create a wall of text I'll sign off. Thanks for the forum and hope to get to meet all of you sooner than later.

Peace, love, and sandwiches

Gabe

EDIT Oh and Pictars of Alaska(cellphone quality sorry)... Just because

Welcome! Definitely thought you were spam at first lol. Quite the interesting title and even more interesting write up!

You're just in time for the fall cleaning meet, or in Mahk's language, the cleaniong meet. Check out the thread for it.

Is your 8 black? I can't quite tell from the pictures.

What made you make the move all the way from Alaska to Boston?

Welcome and great intro!

As Mark and Jenn said the clean meet is coming up, Nov 13th to be exact. I'm Jeff, the crazy guy from PA that drives to the New England area for meets and to hang out with some great people.

So, how about some more info on the cars? What mods are done and what do you have planned?

Greetings ans Salutations! You have come to the right place. We are more of a "people" club who just happen to love cars. Check out the the schedule sticky for all upcoming events and meets. We also post impromptu meets in the BS thread from time to time. Enjoy your stay and hope to see you soon.

I'm hysterical, I said "armature" motorsport and no one called me out on it. teh lolz must ensue!

So yes lets see everyone likes pictures so let me see what I can dig up... I realized I don't take pictures of my toys anymore. Probably because New England has not been kind to them.

*Mods... stock of course ;)

*Plans... Ohhhhh you know just an intake... thinkin' about an exhaust or header. I just want to pick up 15-20hp so I can beat up on a mustang or two with my car that "may" also happen to be in my moms name. If that doesn't do it I'm thinking about some nitrous. What do u guyz fink about a 100 shot? Oh and I want to run regular 87 because I'm going to school and can't afford premium.

Sorry I get cheeky, couldn't resist!

So my philosophy with cars is keep it looking stock, keep the idle stock, keep it sounding stock but make sure it can put a smile on your face. Ok the wheels were a bit much but don't knock them yet. At 14'bs ea with 19lb tires they actually match the stock 14" wheel and tire combo and beat the 15" combos that came on later NB's. Running a larger overall diameter isn't really an issue for me.

That said I'm seriously thinking about some 15x9 6UL's but they will add 3lbs per corner so I'm not sure I want to run those on the street.

Plans for next year are to pay off and spruce up the RX8 (which is the grocery getter) and it's staying stock (sorry RX8 fans).

The beast is getting a soft top installed (this weekend actually). Some enthusiastic chap hopped up on milk duds was kind enough to break into my car and leave the GPS, the head unit, the tools in the trunk (easily $500 worth) and steal a ratty sweatshirt and an old digital camera you could not sell on ebay now for $20.

Sadly he wasn't kind enough to break the lock or a window but instead cut my top. So before it gets too cold I'm going to tackle that project.

Second item is to find a good aluminum welder as I need someone to fill in a little bit on the head where a keensert installed with bearing mount came out and took any hope of putting another one in there. For reference this is the kind of PITA it is to install and it really is not supposed to come out. http://tr6.danielsonfamily.org/TAJigDrill.htm

So then just some fluid changes and get ready for winter.

Down the road I'm researching my next step and debating between running MS in parallel or just a full standalone and swapping ECU and injectors when it comes time to get it inspected. Any advice from those who have to deal with this idiocy is welcome.

Ok I promised pictures and I know everyone loves their pictures so... here we go. (some are old some are new, some are just random pics from AK)
