????? im trying to figure out this comment. The civic was never ment to be a sports car, it was made to be economical. they started to get into the "SI" spec when everyone surpassed them in every aspect except gas millage and cost to own. There may be civics out there that started a trend for other civics, but there is no sports car that is based on the civic being produced. there's no way in hell you can tell me a speed3, SRT-4, SS, GTI or any car in its class was created because of the civic. the civic doesn't even fall into the same class as any of the above, its not turbo. it has beast power for an NA 4 cyl dnt get me wrong, but seriously?

The GTI created the "Hot Hatch" market segment back in the late 1970s.

The correct response when someone tells you they have a turbo'd civic is not "cool". The correct response is in fact to backhand them. If they cry, do it again.

I saw a post on a civic forum. Someone was deciding between a civic si and MS3. They were stuck on price. The wanted the MS3 cause it had a turbo, but the Si was $3k cheaper. The prevailing argument from the the members of the site was that the person would be better off to get the Si, and take the the $3k they save and put it towards a $5k tubo install for the Si. I wish I was kidding. So now you have a Si that cost $2k more then a MS3, and still needs more upgrades to equal to the MS3. Now that's sound advice.

Nothing like getting a brand new car and voiding the warranty to equal a stock car, while spending more.

the Si spec has been around since the mid 80's. if the Civic had not become extremely popular to modify do you really think the MS3, SS, SRT4 would have come out?? the reason the MS3, SS, SRT4 came out was to challenge the market share that honda had cornered. granted they slacked off after 99 and other manufacturers started to develop better products. i dont feel any of the real pocket rockets would have been around if the Civic scene hadnt been so huge in the mid 90's

true, but it doesn't help that they leave the infinity badges on. there is no infinity brand in japan, mazda doens't have any upscale brands like lexus, infinity, acura, etc

its a sport hatch/wagon..... as are the GTI\CaliberSRT(well, not really sure what u classify this) what would you classify them as if they arnt?

you could argue this, but at the same time there is no way in hell they inspire sports cars in the 80-90's like the RX-7 , Supra, and skyline, NSX etc.. The civic was nothing compared to them, it was cheap and easy for people to **** it, but theres no way the civic inspired any of the cars above to become what they did. does it have a history longer then most modern cars? yes, but in that case so does the mustang, the new civics dont offer benefits over the older versions other than power each gen, which is still barely 200 hp, and barely a 15 in the quarter mile

All I can say is that its a matter of pride. If some guy wants to legitimately tune his honda civic, NOT RICE THE s*** OUT OF IT, and he enjoys it then more power to him... Even though I think its totally wrong and a waste of money lol. And on the issue of people not knowing about the mazdaspeed 3...it amazes me. I was driving today and an rsx pulls up next to me. It was turboed and pretty sharp looking. He took off and I caught and passed him and at the next light his window comes down and the look on his face was unreal. jaw dropped wide eyed and he says "is that a mazda 3?" take into mind i dont have any badges except my black flying M. I said "yes it is" Then with the same blank stare he says to me..."i never heard of a mazda 3 like that! Is it from Japan???" I almost had to pull over I was laughing so hard.

One day I was driving fairly hard, and I see this rsx fly up beside me and we end up at the next light side by side. He revs his engine and looks over at me. I didn't even rev, just looked at him with a smirk. I let him take off then blew past him being sure to blow off right in his window.. He takes the normal route and makes the first right he can. My point is... it WASNT EVEN A TYPE S! Just a plain jane rsx... gimme a fn break.

and all of these posts are reasons why i bought my Speed and not a WRX or SRT-4. It doesnt scream TURBO! we dont have a giant shopping cart handle on the back of our car or dual exhaust, nor do we have that tell tale hood scoop. the fact that it is so unknown to people makes me oh so happy!

its even funnier when MY MOM "thinks" her Caliber SRT-4 is faster than me! would i be a bad son if i end up spanking her on the street or track? lol

i already told her i want to mod it for her lol!! but im not stupid, ill make sure to keep mine always faster than hers. i have to say, the car drives real nice, and im jealous of her boost gauge and FMIC stock from the factory! what is really cool though is that it has a 1/4 mile, 0-60, g-force and a few other settings on the trip computer!!

she did try and take off on me at a light already, i told her i had to get off the gas in 2nd to prevent from rear ending her lol .. in her defense too, she has driven manual for 24 years but this is her first turbo car.
