tphskab said:Its not really a matter of saving money for the classic, assuming I sell my PRS I will have enough. I just want something a little less expensive so I dont feel like I have to baby it. And care to give some reasons to avoid the studio and go with the classic (NOT shutting down this idea AT ALL, I just want to know why you say it)
jmv said:So, play a bunch of guitars, and my suggestion is to play them unplugged, so that you can really get a feel for the resonance of the guitar itself, uncolored by whatever pickups and amp you're playing through. Once you have a really resonant guitar, that you like the basic sound of, you can adjust pickups or amps or amp settings accordingly, until the tone just oozes.

And even tho' I have always been a Fender (Strat) guy at heart, you gotta love the fat, in-your-face sound of a Les Paul at full scream.
My advice, sell the PRS and get an Tele AND a Les Paul. Used if you have to, to afford both.
seanmcsean said:(mswerd) I found my gibson RD artist that way.. I went to a lot of second hand shops looking for the right one, and finally settled on it. but at first I played it unplugged.
I found that playing it unplugged will let you know if there are any unusual buzzes in the body or neck.
good for you, if you sell it you'll probably regret it.tphskab said:I am getting happier with my PRS and may keep it
I dont know much about tubes, is this something that I could just put in mine? My friend was saying he bought the same tubes just made by a different company and they were a hotter tubes and sounded betterGrandBelialKey said:good for you, if you sell it you'll probably regret it.
if your amp dont sound as good as it used to, you might look into getting it rebiased. 6L6's are crap imho. KT88's ftfw!
I have a DeltaBlues 115 and I get tubes from JJs EuroTubes which rule, he loves DBs and puts together custom sets. I was using my other guitar players Triple Recto for a while and in my opinion it doesn't hold a candle to my DB.Yell03SpecV said:meh. he probably just sold you some s*** you didn't need. although a set of tubes WILL make a huge difference. i replaced the tubes in my Peavey Delta Blues combo with a 6 Hard GT EL84 matched set and some Ruby 12AX's. Sounds pretty good now.
Check out the site I mentioned above. He knows all you need to know about tubes.tphskab said:I dont know much about tubes, is this something that I could just put in mine? My friend was saying he bought the same tubes just made by a different company and they were a hotter tubes and sounded better
