a buddy of mine is having a problem with his car, it always grinds when its going into 3rd unless you do it really slow, the dealrship said it is his clutch and that the warrenty wont cover it, does that sound right or do you think the gear is just ****** up and they dont want to replace it, thanks for any info

it synchronizes the gears to be at the same speed so when you switch gear it wont grind

Well, to "check" a synchronizer you have to take apart the transmission.
But I bet money is the synchro. If it grinds, it's not synchronizing correctly, like has been said.
One thing that might help is to change the trans fluid to a creative mix of synthetic fluids. I used to have an issue with 2nd gear. Then I mixed up some trans. lubricants and 100,000 mi later, my gears are fine. It stopped grinding too, obviously.

you shouldnt mix transmission fluid , its all different , u dont want to mix detergents , unless you created some crazy fluid

Well, one of the components is an "oil stabilizer." And to preempt additional questions, yes, it is meant to be mixed with gear oil. It says that on the bottle.
And further... a tranny is not "supposed" to grind at low mileage either (with a factory fill), if you understand my meaning.
So this all seems like a combination of things that should not "be," though it seems to be working out.
Is this a rhetorical question? Probably because they don't know.
thanks for the info guys i forgot about this thread, we took it to the dealership and they did tests on it and it is the synchro, but they said they wont fix it cuz "its not all that bad to grind a lil in gears" so rather then fix a lil problem they would rather wait tell it ***** up the whole tranny and then replace it haha oh well i guess
