GPS Navigation

OK So I did a search on this thread and I was a little confused seeing as how I Live in ontario and the GPS option is not available to me I will never be able to get one because it is a factory installed option????? The dealer can not put this in after the fact? And if not they still cant order the complete set up for warranty issues ect. OK so the deal is I want the navigation really really bad. I would love it if someone who lives in the USA could find this info out for me. Can the dealer order all the parts except the DVD Disc itself and how much is it for just the parts?? If anyone feels like asking for me that would be super thanks!!!!!

All I can say is that it will be VERY expensive and VERY difficult to add the NAV on a Canadian-spec Mazda3. Honestly, it's probably cheaper to buy a NAV car from the US and importing it (and that is also expensive and problematic). Or, wait a year or two and hope that Mazda Canada brings NAV to Canada (but I can tell you that'll take a while)

its a 2000US option if I am right so it would be about 3-4k here.....also at the dealer I got mine from they have a rx-8 and it cant sell because it has the nav in it and no-one wants to pay 3k for something they wont use.......think for a sec.......you go 2hrs north of the t-dot and you dont have much roads left to nav on........personally I see no sense in the dvd-nav.....and it doesnt play regular dvds anyways...I would go aftermarket if you wanted something and it would be cheaper as well......

Well the reason GPS would be handy in my case is due to the fact that I have to drive to alot of the jobs I do, especially residential address. So in my case the GPS would be very handy and I am willing to pay up to 3000 for it. I am sure that just the parts for it ordered would be cheaper then buying it with a car. I have thought about going aftermarket but the mazda GPS looks so clean and nice ect. Natech the company the supplies the map dvds for this unit has alot of coverage all of canada and US and tons and tons of Ontario cityies are listed right down to street level. Check it out at www.navtech.com

I would not spend the money and just buy a seperate unit. I purchased the best that Garmin sells for $700 and it has everything that the Mazda3 units has, except for every map on 1 disc. Plus, I can put the thing in any car or take it in the house so it's not stolen.

I love the GPS unit the only thing is, I wish the darn thing had a mini keyboard or touch-screen... It makes programming it in a pain in the butt, sometimes the enter key doesn't register and I gotta keep hitting it...

grab an aftermarket one if you want it that badly. Pioneer makes a good unit.

I agree. My friend has had a pioneer dvd navi system for about 3 years. It was in his last car, and he put it in his new one now. It's an amazing system. It's not touch screen, but it has voice activation, and the remote looks like a small cell phone type unit. If you're going to get an after market navi system, I would definately suggest Pioneer.

The GPS isnt touchscreen?! I was thinking about getting one but if it isnt touchscreen i dont think ill waste my money

Kenwood makes a touch screen model. I believe you have to have their touch screen DVD HU in order for it to work though.

I'm planning to get a Mazda3 too. So, if I get an aftermarket Navi. System... can I still order the original kit from Mazda so the display can fip down and hide under the dash??? (uhm)

Nope Mazda won't let you order the original kit unless it's an insurance replacement.

damn that sucks.... why would they do that? they will make more money if people do buy extra parts or accessories from them...

Gps

I just bought a 2006 Mazda 3 Grand Touring a few months ago, it was the only one at the dealership with MOST of the options I wanted (all but the navigation) I was assured by the dealer that I could add navigation later, (I even clarified I wanted the mazda nav, as it doesn't look out of place) he said "NO problem!" so needless to say... after I signed the papers and came back to get the nav put in, the service dept could not find any parts for the nav in his computer... Later I found out from the mazda website that navigation cannot be put in by the dealer, it has to be built at the factory that way... GRRRR!

So now I am looking for other options for nav... I don't want to replace my stereo, cut it looks right, and its a nice bose system... I wouldn't mind going aftermarket if I could find a unit that looked good, and fit in with my car...

Sorry I couldn't help, let me know if you have come up with any other options, I am in the same boat as you :-(

The only thing you will not get with an aftermarket unit, is the reverse camera that displays on the factory nav screen when you go into reverse.
I heard the factory unit has this? Can anyone confirm?

I have 2007 Grand Touring with nav and it does not come with a reverse camera. Maybe there's an extra option to get one but it does not come by default with the factory navigation.
