haha! I have always driven older VW's, and no matter the model or the age, they all have that identical 'volksy' smell to them!

Wow thats a statement! I think my MP3 is sold so now I have to deside what to get and I have enough $ to get r32 VW and I am torn. I know the Speed3 is super fast but R32 is fast enough. I am torn

that choice depends on your tastes and budget.

the MKIV R32 can be found for approx $25k w/ 20-40k miles. it's definitely a solid car. but it has some "flaws."

the MKV R32 is good for people who want a larger, better chassis'd vehicle (compared to the MKIV) and who can stand the automatic. and yes, the DSG is an automatic. you can call it an automated manual. but, if it doesn't have 3 pedals, it's an automatic. they run $32k-38k, though.

whichever you chose (MS3, MKIV or MKV R32), you'll have a great car and a wonderful and fun daily driver.

i chose the MS3 because the MKIV chassis is crap (it's an awful tuning platform). the MKV only comes in automatic (i can't see myself entertaining an automatic...i'm too young). and the MS3 seemed to be a good choice.

Seriously though, I joined VW vortex and had no problems over there. You will always have your "I know everything" and "holier than thou" people on any forum. I can say of any vehicle forum I've ever been on (and that's alot) I have NEVER seen as much drama as I have seen with these cars Anyway, welcome and good luck with your new MS3.

P.S. I traded a 2007 VW GTI 4 door in for this car. VERY happy with my decision. Not that the Vdubs is a bad car (very nice actually), the MS3 just suits me better. Also leaps and bounds ahead of VW in the performance category.

I also made the jump from a MKV GTI to the Speed3 and I can tell you the GTI community is rather snobbish. However the speed3 community is also full of its share of pricks also, seems like there is always one person who has more opinion than help in more than one occasion

So I joined a GTI forum since the car was on my radar for after basic and all alongside the MS3.

Well, I gotta say that the MS3 crowd of owners at least on this forum have dealt a heavy blow to the GTI and its cultish following. I posted on that site a simple hey this is me im doing the military thing and i like the ms3 and the gti. What i want to know is what about the gti do you all like and what dont you, what have you had problems with.

Well my only response to that post was pointless and rude. So apparently GTI owners are better than the average bear. yeah whatever

Anyways thanks for being a better community with a better car lol, I think I have made my decision completly and doubt I'll even test drive a GTI now, a nice car with pricks for owners isnt something I want to get into.

I was actually ready to buy a Gti farenheit the day before I picked up my Speed3. I had a 74 Sirrocco that i wish I still had, but, you gotta move on. I really like the GTI, and everyone I meet who owns one and is involved with that community is pretty cool. Hopefully we can be helpful and offer our friendship and experience to you in whatever way you need.

Don't worry about some of the posters (posers) here. Most of them are pretty harmless. Overzealous, yes. Helpful in their own way, always.

Have I...yeah, black. I love black cars. Its also gonna be the GT just cause I like the little options that that offers.

Ive been on this forum for a while, just saying my 2 cents here and there. Sadly I wont be getting the car anytime soon as I have to wait until after Air Force basic trainging and tech school to even think about lookin at a car and then I plan to save up(i would like to put around 8k down) so I can actually afford the payments on it.

I've been on vortex since 2003. I've left that place swearing to never return several times only to return because I needed info.

You have to wade through 200 posts of horseshit to find the one nugget of info. Sometimes it's my only hope when I'm ass deep in the garage in parts and I need my car for work the next day.

This forum is obviously smaller. That's good IMO. My problem with car forums in general is that people tend to take a lot of technical advise from people in regard to what times they run at the track. I'm speaking in a very general sense and not about anyone here in specific. It's not as much an issue here as most people are somewhat reluctant to hacking up cars in the face of possible warranty issues. In the MKIV forum, people tinkered. I also saw more than a few "ventilated block" threads.

my buddy is big into VW's and he too has pretty much given up on vortex except for the local section where everyone knows eachother. As for the "ventilated blocks," go check out the msp or p5 sections, happened a bunch over there as ppl started upgrading their turbos without going forged. I imagine it will happen here eventually, but the ms3 is a little too young for a lot of ppl to be kissing their warranty goodbye
