Got my cheap Dual tone highway blasters on!

Look out old ladies!! I got rid of that whimpy little mazda horn and got me a set of highway blasters! $15 and I'm blasting my way down the highway.
the only thing is that grille is a major pain in the arse to get off!
I would have rather changed all four of my tires than do that. i am never taking it off again, unless it's to put a FMIC.:D (mspb)

Definitely a good buy! The horn is so sissy on my MSP I'm embarassed when it honks. It's more of an "EEEK" than a honk! :wtf:

its a horn. leave it alone.

and you want to talk about tinty squeaky nasty little begger horns. go stick your head in front of a civic horn. christ oh mighty thats horrible. The_glassman would often put the flashers on and lay on the horn when we'd hang out if i went into a gas station or anywhere for that matter when i had my civic. SOB. god that was a horrible sound to come out of a business listening to.

MazdaSpeed Mike,
Well done. Where dyu live? If in the NY metro area, yeah, good investment. Drivers in Canada are nicer, Logan doesn't need a loud horn.

How'd you do the upgrade? I have a set of loud duals but I'm not sure if I should replace the horn (gotta remove the facia) or just bypass the original and run a set of new wires and attach them somewhere else...

i wanna get one of those remote horns that play college fight songs, my buddy has the ohio state fight song in his civic and i love it.

I actually live in North Texas. I just like the louder horn. I really don't like wimpy horns. I was almost run off the road a couple of times by truckers. they just can't hear the little horns.:o
It was kinda easy. the grille was a pain to get off. you only have to remove the grille and the old horn. the horn came off easy, just one bolt and pry the connector loose. I attached the new horns to the same screw hole using the brackets it came with. the only thing is the horns are fatter than the stock one. you will have to push them towards the radiator a little, so your grille will fit back on. then get a new wire and wire the two horns together. now attach the old connector to one of the horns.
And toot away!:D
easy and effective.

Yeah, I "hear" ya man. New Jersey drivers are deaf and stupid and it doesn't matter if they're driving a truck or not.

Thanks for the instructions! I thought we had to take the entire front off just for the horns...and I was actually waiting for someone to report this!

MazdaSpeed Mike,

In the thread below people are saying that it's a real pain to get the grille off without breaking anything - did you end up breaking any tabs or sacrifice something to get this done? As soon as it stops snowing here I'm dead serious about putting my loud duals on myself...

will appreciate it if you can put your 2 cents in that thread bro.

So did you notice an increase in your top speed with that horn upgrade? I heard you can add like 15whp with a high-output horn.

j/k :)

nah, they slow you down due to the emense force of the horn blasting forward. it pushes the car back!:D

Actually no. I did not break anything. But it would be easy to break this stuff if you're not careful. definatly be careful. there's some kind of trick to taking off the grill. the brackets at the bottom are a pain. I pulled and pulled to no avail. I was about to give up and I tried one more time. I put a little "wiggle" in the pull and it popped right off with not much force at all.
again do be careful and study how it comes off and goes on. somebody posted a jpeg of the removal on this site. do a search. I would hate for you to break your grille.
you also have to bend the mounting back a little, because the new horns will most likely be bigger than the mazda horn.
good luck.;)

First both grilles are pretty easy to get off, they're just annoying as hell!! Doesn't take a rocket scientist to get them off, just common sense.

Anyways I have the dual horns, except I have the high note low note blend.

They sound great, just like a SUV (aka stupid uselss vehicle)

Anyways, I bolted the horn where the old one used to be, and then put the other one in the same spot only on the other side of frame.

You do have to do some tweaking with the grill because it won't fit back in if there is anything much bigger than the stock horn. The grill has a huge plastic piece on the bottom of it, maybe protecting the stock intake from getting road dirt and water from blowing up from the bottom of the car.

I just trimmed the excess plastic on the grill so that the horns fit in the spot perfectly and didn't compromise the stock intake from getting junk in it.

Sounds so much better, these foreign cars need to stop putting those weak @ss horns on their cars. I know some honda owners might think that a twangy horn compliments their fart can exhaust, but some people don't!!! It's like the car makers are ricing the horns out straight from the factory.
