Got a call from the dealership...

:
2003.5 White Mazda Protege5
So I am sitting at work eating lunch a few moments ago and my cell phone runs. It's some salesman from the Mazda dealership that I bought my car from a year ago on May 29th. He asked me how my Protege 5 was and then went on to tell me that they are having Memorial Day sales this weekend and that he has a "need" for my Protege. I said ok, the only way I would be willing to sell my car is if you guys paid it off and did not tack any money on to the new car that I were to purchase. He said that they could do that and I am thinking "yeah right".

I want some of your opinions. Want do you guys think? Do you think they are just trying to get me to buy another car or do you think they really have a "need" for it? The car was a lot car. Maybe they hid something in it and want the car to get it out! LoL!

Let me know what you think please...

my friend got a call a while back that protege 5's were on demand, so that they'd be willing to buy his car. they gave him e-mail and stuff, so i e-mailed the person, but they never responded... oh well.

exactly, just go in there with nothing to lose

worst case you leave with your protege5, which I assume you like anyway

best case you get a killer deal on a new car

It's a standard marketing ploy. My wife and I get letters frequently from our dealers stating that there is a "need" for our cars.

if they give you a great offer and great price on a new car, go for it. seems kind of fishy though. they probably just want to get you in to get a new car and screw you on the overall price......

I think it's a ploy. I just bought my 03 P5 a couple weeks ago and they had it on sale for $14K down form $17K and it only had 14.5K miles on it. Seems like I got a pretty good deal on it. Or maybe I'm just delusional cause I knew I wanted the car as soon as I saw it on the lot.

YUP......we bought our new 03.5 P5 last yr (04), i think it had 500mi, we paid $14.8 drive out.........NEW, full factory warranty.

Maybe I did pay a little too much but I was going by Kelley Blue Book and it say's retail is about $15300 so I thought I was doing good. Oh well I still like the car. And I put 2003.5 cause when I first started looking around this site there was a couple questions about the differences between the 2003 and 2003.5. Which I learned is pretty much the additionof the baby size sub in the back. I just haven't gotten around to changing it. I'll do that right now.

I think it depends on the area too. My dad paid $12k used w/11k mi for his recently. Maybe he could have gotten it cheaper if he didn't get it in boku bucks Hunt Valley. Same w/my '02 for $17k in Germantown, which is right in the second richest county in America, good ole Montgomery County. Call me a fool, but it's no skin off my nose, at least I have a car I absolutely love that has been 100% reliable for me. (shrug)

It also helped that they were willing to pay off my gas guzzling 01 Dodge Durango R/T. The 10.5mpg that thing got was killing me.
