Got a 98 626

Hello everyone here, nice forum! this is my first post...

I just acquired a 98' 626 4cyl 2.0l DOHC 16 valve car, In about mint shape.

I have a few questions about the motor more than anything...

What would you recommend to run for motor oil in these engines? viscosity? conventional/synthetic? brand?

First of I'm going to do a tune up, motor oil/filter, plugs, wires, clean sensors, pcv valve, fuel filter, clean throttle body, new air filter(or may just build a cai) Anything I'm missing on the tuneup?

What spark plugs are best for these motors?

It has 7mm NGK plug wires on it currently, Can I goto 8MM wires? any recommended brands?

I noticed the car has 1.75" exhaust(I think). It seems to restrict a bit. Would a 2.5" exhaust be okay? Can I use magnaflow muffler/cat on the mazda? I'm not sure if a magnaflow cat would be compatible and possibly throw a code....suggestions please ! Magnaflow has sounded good on all my previous vehicles and that's why I mention it, smooth, and not too loud, just nice.

Has anyone built a CAI before for these engines? The stock intake actually sounds real good, but I figured I can get a little more from it.

The coilpack is Motocraft. Is there a better coil pack or is this one good? And do these coilpacks tend to die? Should I stock up on a extra one?

Last question...what are the intervals I am supposed to do the timing belt at?

Sorry for the long post....this is my first Mazda....

Thanks for any and all help! Very much appreciated!

Hey there! Is your car an automatic or manual transmission? My husband has a '96 & I have an '02. I'll see if he can help you.

Hey man, I'll answer your questions the best that I can. My wife said that you needed a little help, so let's see what I can do.

You didn't say how many miles the car has on it, but as far as oil goes, I use good ol' conventional Castrol GTX 10w-40, and I change it every 3,000 miles.

While you're doing that tune-up, have the timing belt, water pump, and front crank seal replaced.

I use NGK platinum plugs in my car. I use OBX 10mm wires on my car, and on my wife's car we're using NGK wires.

I'm not running a cat at all, and I'm not throwing any codes. I'm running a 2.25" exhaust on my car. 2.5" should be fine, and you shouldn't have any problem running any muffler.

I actually got a Spectre stainless intake tube w/a 45 degree angle on it and placed it between my air box and my throttle body.

That Motorcraft coil pack should be just fine. They don't tend to die at all.

And you should change the timing belt every 60,000 miles.

Hope that this helped you out. Let me know if there's anything else that I can help you with.
