^^^^tell that to the folks who keep pushing the macs when the man clearly stated he's not interestes^^^

Also we're aware it's his cash but he asked for opinions and advice and thats what most people are giving him!

No, I agree, but people are pushing $2k laptops on the dude (Macbook Pros, etc).

you're right. There are so many great value laptops available. My siss got her Dell for $899 like 3 months ago. 2.8 ghz P4 with HT, 40 gig HD, 512MB ram,
17" monitor. It's a beauty!

I would love to spend no more than $1500, but if I find one I really like, $1800 will be absolute max.
And yes I already stated no Macs. It seems people have stock in mac or something to keep pushin them so hard. I appreciated the first few but then I said no.
But thanks for the ideas guys. I'm still lookin around. Unfortunately I dont have a fry's around here. I wish fujitsu had a dealer locator on their site(well I couldn't find it) to see if even they have one in the city or something.

Yeah, but is it really portable? How much does it weigh? Will she really take it places.

I think the main reason that people are "pushing" macs is that they have good designs, they are small, thin, elegant, and get the work done while on the road.

Unless you're looking for a desktop replacement. Then it doesn't really matter waht you buy. Doesn't matter if it looks like a turd, it will be sitting on your desk not moving anywhere.

I think I narrowed it down to the Fujitsu E8210(http://www.computers.us.fujitsu.com/www/products_notebooks.shtml?products/notebooks/tech_specs/e8210_ts), and the Dell E1705(http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/entnb_e1705?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~section=specs#tabtop). Now for those of you more versed in comps, viewing at those tech specs are they more or less the same. How will the graphics card compare and also internet? I still want to get a look at the size difference between the 15.4" and the 17", but I think I wan the 17" but might change my mind.

ok so you say you will spent no more than $1500 but wont pay $1,099 for a Macbook . you havent even used a intel mac. well keep your windows only pc. it seem's you havent even reserched the intel Mac. yea im a Mac user but i own a older Mac Mac's have changed to intel i dont think you have even used one.

i didnt say OS X only you can run windows XP nativly on the thing and run OS X to boot cause there is greats with both OS 's and downfall's with both why limit yourself to a pc that will only run windows xp

i give up, people will alway's fear apple

She takes it everywhere. It's plenty portable. She loves it and IMO it looks just fine.

And just so you know, the era of the grey desktop box is gone. My desktop PC looks just fine and there are a MILLION customizable cases out there!

So much to choose from, I think I'm gunna get a new case when I upgrade my MOBO and processor. Dual Core FTW!

Bottom line man: Get whatever makes you happy!

Vindication,

The reason this thread is not going anywhere is that you haven't stated your goals.

It's like asking to give you recommendation on what bicycle to buy. The BMX guys are going to suggest one thing, the road racers--another, etc. You know what I mean :D.

Assbag, the guy said no Macbooks of any flavour. The hardware may be a bit better, but be a bit more intelligent when trying to get someone to switch. You won't convince him as he's set on a product.

Also, do the rest of us [Mac] users a favour too and spell correctly at least. Assbag.

My vote is on the Fujitsu.

really where did i get out of line with you. look who is being one

if you want to be that way with me then so be it

your reported

and to the orignal toppic starter do some research, google is you friend on stuff like this

i cant beleave some people.

oh BTW dude this isnt your toppic to control, he was asking people's refrence on a good laptop i gave him reasons he should get the new intel Mac. BTW the only Macbook that comes any where close to $2k is the top of the line Macbook pro and he said he didnt need a powerful laptop like that.

hummmm look here

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=MacBook

OMG what's that, a Macbook for $1,099 with option's of monthly payments of $26 a month that dont look like a $2k laptop to me. looks more along the lines of $1k. And it has the intel core duo (2 cores running at 1.83ghz) 512mb ram, 60gb hdd, isight cam built in, built in wifi G, the ability (with boot camp) to fully run windows xp in any language and mabe windows vista, and to dual boot into OS X , why not have the best of both worlds, and there are power converters for each place you want to go to if that is what your worried about. they will fit any laptops you get.

Hey, why don't you get a Macbook? (evil)
Just kidding.
Though I do think that's the best buy now.(evil)

But I do sympathize with this guy. Pull the trigger!
If those spots run much more I might to switch..... nah.

vaios are overpriced. You pay the biggest premium for a vaio notebook, while the technology is the same as the competitors.

Amen for that. You pay for the slick look of a VAIO. And often enough, shoddy hardware.

i say whatever you do go, get the new Core Duo from Intel. that processor is an absolute beast.

Werd

my experience:

dell - good hardware, software support blows balls.
ibm - great business notebooks, no frills but always come through.

No frills? IBM laptops are full of frills. Fingerprint readers, keyboard lights, etc. They're just not for 1337 gamers.

hp - heard nothing but good things.

I've heard plenty of issues with hps. I wouldn't buy one.

I also used to have an abymsal Compaq 1255 laptop way back when.

just recently i bought an Acer off of newegg.

Acer = very unreliable. Their chipsets are terrible.

People - the flames stop here. I've cleaned up this thread. Let's move on and be civil.

My office has 10-12 hp laptops and have been using them for almost 2 years now with very few problems, the only issue i can think of was a hard drive that crapped out on one. I like mine.
