MP3 OR MSP? (update)

For my next car I'm hoping for a MSP but I'm also looking at 02/03 ES's and the MP3. I was wondering the price range that I should expect when buying an MP3? I know the MSP is ballpark 9-13K, should I just spring for the MSP?

If I get the MP3 I'm just going to bolt on's and try to make 155-160hp, If I get the ES I'll Turbo it, and if I get the MSP I'll do nothing to it (inicially). I really value everyone's opinions here.

So bassically, how much, and is worth getting an mp3 instead of an ES or MSP? I would consider it the best platform to go N/A on.:) The MP3 is just as sexy as the MSP so in the looks department it's all set. I think the suspensions are more or less equal on both.

MP3 or MSP, thank you in advance for your advice.

I'm looking for the best all around protege, I love the car. And I've always read the great reviews on all models. To me buying the MP3 is like buying a Civic Si 04 (in terms of drivetrain) while the MSP would be like buying the Newer 06 Si. A bump in power, while both are fun to drive.

IMO having the power stock is a bit better. The kits are available but then it makes the car less reliable. The MP3 is nice but it lacks that extra power the MSP has.

lolz, what bolt-ons were you going to do to get 160hp. Nitrous?
Just get an MSP. I really wish I would've.
I/H/E pullies, wires, custom made Intake manifold insulator, cams, TB, thinner head gasket ... I thought originally but after some reaserch it appears the exhoust holds out well. The Cams I would use the J-spec Z cams I've seen some dynos that show they're good for about 8whp. But thank you for your input.

Having both an MP3 and MSP, i would say the MP3 is more fun to drive. The MP3 has a better steering rack (turning/ handling is a lot more responsive) Yes, it does lack the power of the MSP, but right out the box its a better car. There is no hesitation or jerking. The MP3 pulls all the way to redline and asks for more. When i push it in my MSP, im scared something is going to brake.

All of this is just my opinion. With mods, the msp is a blast to drive. But stock for stock, the MP3 gets my vote. Plus, the MP3 is a rarer species lol :)

--Edit, the MP3 with an intake, Lightweight crank pulley, header, and j-spec cam intake cam would really bring the car to life. My first mod however, would be a grounding it. I swear by it (as do many others) because it improved my gas milage, idled better, and made the engine feel "smoother" if that makes anysense.

I Can imagine, the change would be cause the sound system uses so much power. So your taking stress off the alternator ;). Thank very much for you post, it was extremely insightful. With the mods I mentioned I'd like to atleast make 155-160 hp at the CRANK.

I went to KBB, and edmunds I looks like the range is about $5.5k-$9k on the MP3 a few thousand less than the MSP. Great, I'll keep my eyes open for both cars. Until I find a sweet deal.

155hp at the crank is very easy for the MP3, considering it makes 140hp at the crank from factory. Get an intake, header and crank shaft pulley and you are well over 155 at the crank.

Shameless plug, but i will be selling my MP3 within the next couple of weeks. Asking price is $7000. Great condition, all records kept. I will get back to you with more details when it becomes available.

If you don't buy anything for a while look for my car to go on sale mid next year. Adult driven MSP, blue. Only 29k on it right now.

Thank you II-Savy. I'm passively looking for now, if I see a deal I can't resist I'll jump on it. But I'm patient, because I really don't want to take out a larger loan and would rather have more cash on hand instead.

yashart_mp3 Why are you selling? I think I've seen your MP3 I looks like one of the most modded on this board. Carbon Fiber everthing, suspension upgrades, turbo? I don't know your exact mods but if I remember you've done quite a few. Nice car BTW.

lol, yup!

Actually, i was going to pick up an EVO, but i found this at the dealership and could not pass it up. I was originally going to turbo my MP3, but after dumping 13K into the car, i figured it was time to move onto something bigger (EVO). Like I said, I stumbled across this and just couldn't pass it up. I figured I would sell my MP3, and use that money for either heavily mod the MSP, or use it as a downpayment on a newer, luxury car. All said and done, I am going to miss my MP3. It is nowhere as finicky (spelling) as my MSP....

And to clear things up, the MP3 is almost 100% back to stock. It has a few items on the car that were nice, subtle upgrades that just didnt make sense to remove (stainless steel brake lines, Shifter Bushings, K&N Filter) Things like that.

Please do post:) Milage, pixs, mods retained (so we know what we don't have to do anymore lol) ect.

I'd hit up e-bay or go to yahoo motors and do a search for MP3 to get a good est. price. I just did and found a 2001 MP3 in SAN ANTONIO for 8k with 84k miles on it.

Not bad it was bright yellow and looked to be in good condition. I'd get Lazor Blue :).

If I was you i'd snag a MS3, but if you can't dish out that much $$$ i'd start with how much do you have to spend? i'm sure everyone can put in thier 2 cents on most bang for your buck!
