Go Go Ghetto MSP custom exhaust

Just got my custom exhaust finished for a local show last week. Got some attention at the show, but with it being my first show and only a few mods, I didn't end up placing in the Protege class.

Anyway, I had a s-pipe back 3" aluminized steel, CRUSH-bent, over axle exhaust built with a single catalytic converter and a Magnaflow muffler. The car is more reactive now and the remaining post-flash hesitation is just about gone. I tried to get a muffler that looked close to the stock, but then I ended up picking one with a 4" round opening as it had bevelled edges which looked very clean. I love the sound that it makes, although it is a bit loud for my wife. On the highway cruising at 180 km/h it sounds great.

I know that for most people aluminized steel and crush bends are taboo, but for the money ($450 CAN, all parts and labour) I think that I did alright. I have only heard 1-2 backfires after driving it all week in various different types of situations (city, highway, idling, etc.).

I will post some movie clips and pix when I have time to take them. I await the flames for my crossover to the aluminized crush-bent darkside of the MSP force.

custom is the best imo. price is always better and normally the gains cant be noticed with more expensive s***.

hwo many differant places did u have to go and ask about before you found the right shop? Also, what did u ask the shops?

Lotsa luck! Listen to the SWEET sound!

I got really lucky. The tuner shop that I work with, SPAZ Performance, knew a guy just outside of Ottawa, Ontario that they had worked with before. This guy does alot of custom work. Much of what he has done has been for show cars. He produces very good quality work. He will do whatever you would like and he always tries to work within your budget. If you want something that is simply not going to work or is not efficient he will say so and suggest better options. I told him that I wanted something that was more functional first and then pretty second. I also told him that I wanted it to go over the axle and that at 3" crush bends were OK. He charged me $350CAN + the cost of the cat installation included. It sounds great, but I'll have to get a silencer since my wife is NOT into the increased loudness...LOL!

Pix from under the hoist

Here are some pics this afternoon from under the hoist. I had to have the rear hanger just behind the rear axle adjusted because when the car settles on the road, the exhaust pipe before the muffler would occasionally touch the suspension components.

Looks good. Just got one question.....why is the cat. after the rear O2 sensor?

Looking very good. You should've replaced that piece right after the spipe and before the flex pipe. Can you take some clips of drive-by?

Thanks.

Hmmmm?

BlkZoomZoom: Not sure about the placement of the cat. I'll ask the exhaust guy this week. Yesterday was my first time seeing the whole thing on the hoist.

CustomMSP: I'll try to convince my wife to do the film thing for a few drive-bys. If I can't get her to do it I'll ask my shop guys early this week.

Thats a VERY weird shape flange coming off the S pipe to the little midpipe pipe before the cats. My shop couldnt find something to use, so they made my exhaust from the cats back...

Some clips from inside

Here are a few from in the car. I was with my kids at the time so nothing at high speed and no drive-bys from outside yet.

Looks good, but dang your car is dirty underneath. I guess winter has affected yours a lot. I think I could eat off of mine. LOL

No vids yet

The movies were too big to upload (> 2MB) so I just extracted the audio and converted them to .mov files. You'll need quicktime to hear them.

I'll try to compress my .avi vids into a samller format or I'll just make them shorter.

can't see the vids....is it just my computer? the file sizes look awful small though

Rainman- have you talked to the person that did your exhaust? I'm curious to see the explanation and awaiting a check engine light.

Not yet BZZ

Haven't talked to him yet, but I will Wed at 16:00. I'll ask him about the setup then. So far, no check engine lights.

i have the latest version of quicktime but i still can't open the vids. it keeps telling me i'm missing a file called "traffic1.aif" and that it needs this file to play it properly. :(

Changed the format

I have reloaded the files as aif files. However, the site won't accept aif files as a valid extension, so I changed the extension to avi. Simple "save as" and then change the extensions on the saved files to aif. These should play in QT.

The previous files turned out to be simply pointers to the aif files on my hard drive.
