So I locked the glove compartment yesterday and later when I tried opening it wouldn't unlock anymore. I really need to get in there, does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do. ( Wasn't sure where to post this sorry in advance if its in the wrong place)

Thanks
Johnathan

smash it open?

hahaha well yeah maybe.. ive never took a look at how to get mine off actually, i know the MS3 guys have done it..dont know if its a similar process or not but take a look in their section, there are some threads on it somwhere..

im guessing ud have to take the whole thing out and try to get at the locking mechanism from inside, free up whats causing the jam wether it be the lock itself or a piece of paper of some sort, then put it all back together.. but thats just a guess..

hey speed j23 i had the same prob, with my speed, i took mine to the dealer and they had to order some new part for mine.

For some reason the link is blocked, here's what it said.

Anyway, if this happens to anyone in the future ... the lock likely isn't broken and is easily fixed. I started by:

1. Remove the plastic trim above the glove box. Held on via several tabs, comes off easily, start in the middle then work out towards the ends.
2. Carefully using two large screwdrivers and a thick washcloth, pry gently on either side of the metal lock/bar just above the glovebox handle (location can be easily seen with flashlight). Keep prying until it pops open, doesn't take much force.
3. Remove the glove box from the dash, just open and push-in on the two tabs (located on the side of the glovebox door). It comes right out.
4. Remove the three screws securing the glovebox door/lid lock mechanism. After removing the screws it comes right out.
5. There is a little plastic clip on the lock mechanism, it rotates when you turn the key and sets the lock or unsets it. This part is flimsy and the design doesn't allow it to sit properly in my opinion. It kind of floats in the mechanism and in my case simply lost contact with the tumbler. I'm surprised it hasn't happened to more folks who have locked the glovebox.
6. Just reconnect it, I also used a lttle heavy grease to help it stick to the mechanism a bit better. The light amount of lithium grease from the factory wasn't enough.
7. Reinstall the mechanism and test, if it works, put it all back together.

Lame write-up I know, but maybe it will help someone.

Glove compartment

I was really happy to see the thread on the glovebox problem. It happened to me yesterday!! I'll report back on how I made out!!

I had the same jammed hinge on my 2009 Mazda 6's glove box. Once open it would not close. Took it to the dealership and they replace what looks like a small bicycle pump or air shock. It pops right out and your dealership should be able to replace it in a minute.
Good luck.
