Glove box

Can someone post a picture of their glove box or tell me if the piece that the latch goes into (the part giving everyone problems that they filled down) is part of the glove box assembly? The previous owner of my 3s filled that part down but filled everything around it and it looks like crap. I got a quote from Showcase for 169.99 for the glove box and am wondering what all comes with it. If it's just the door, the whole part along with the piece the latch goes into or if that filled part is a separate or dash piece. TIA Oh, and I search but found nothing that says if it is part of the glove box or not.

No one knows? :( I contacted a dealer and they haven't gotten back to me yet to tell me if it is part of it or separate. If it is separate then I won't need to replace the glove box. Don't want to spend 169 if I don't have to.

post a picture of your problem area and i bet some one could help you out... a glove box isn't something i have pictures of just lyin around....

Yeah, I should have known most people wouldn't have the pics. :( But, there are pics in the How-To section that shows a glove box and a pic of most everyone's problem area. I just need to know if it's included witht he glove box or not.

I'll try to go out at lunch and snap a couple of pictures.

the latch itself is not a separate replacable part... you will have to order the entire glove box assembly (which is the flip cover you see and the actual box)... only the screws, the screw covers, the little rubber feet, clips, lock cylinder, and the little shock thingy (to slow down the opening of the glove box) are replacable

yes the 3's dashboard is modular and not in one piece like the protege's

It's not the actual latch, but the part the latch goes into the is not on the door of the glove box. It's to the right of the glove box and it keeps the box closed. Does that make sense?

It's this piece. Borrowed from goldwing2000. Hope you don't mind!

If its filled, can you drill it out?

The guy that owned it before already filed it, but he filed the whole thing instead of just the problem area. Now, the glove box falls open when driving. He also cut out the whole back side of the glove box to fit a PS2 in it. :( I'm going to get the new glove box, but didn't know if that piece was separate. I have a feeling the Mazda won't cover it since he cut out the back of it.

If I'm not mistaken, that's part of the actual dashboard assembly. I don't know if that will come with a new glove box.

You have to buy a new glove box anyway, since the asshat whacked a big hole in it, so you'll see what else you need when those parts come in.

That's too bad that it probably doesn't come with it. I hope that piece of the dash isn't too expensive. :( Hell, I've only had the car for two weeks.

I'm going to get it through Showcase so hopefully since the glvoe box is so much cheaper than everywhere else that the piece of the dash I need is just as cheap.

I could be wrong, too. You might get lucky. :)

The glovebox is a complete and seperate assembly, but not part of the whole dash. Just remove the top "carbon fiber" piece, and remove the 2 or 3 screws on the top of the glovebox. Then just pull (the bottom is just clipped in). I think you also have to remove the kickpanel to make things easier. I'm reasonably sure the glove box lid can be removed from the rest of the box (where the receiving part of the latch resides), but not sure if you can get them seperately.

Thanks, Brian. I ordered the new glove box and we shall see what it comes with. I need it anyway since the original owner hacked the back portion of it out for a stupid PS2 install.
