GI : Intake Manifold for NA

You can port and/or polish anything... Porting is simply the matching or enlargement of the ports on any given part. Polishing is just what it sounds like; Making something have a polished finish.

For example, my intake manifold it ported, and so is my throttle body, and a few other parts, but I've only lightly ported/polished my exhaust runners on my head, since that's all I could do without removing said head. =) Given that shortly I'll have a spare (I hope), I'll be able to port that out more completely. It usually makes the most DIFFERENCE when done to a head, but just remember, anything that flows can be ported/polished. =)

The manifold is not going to be cast, so there won't be much room to port if any, and probably not necessary.

I definetly like the idea of an intake manifold! I'd certainly buy one (provided actual gains of course)! I'll have to keep an eye on this thread.

Whats the update on these manifolds? They coming along according to schedule? Any setbacks or problems? Any idea what this might cost yet or no?

Since this manifold is going to be cast and not necessary to port-n-polish, would it still be benefitial to port/polish the exhaust manifold, head, TB etc? I suppose a valve angle job would be helpful too???

its NOT being cast... chicaboo said that in post #62

and while i'm thinking of it don't port your exhaust manifold....

port and polish your head.. even the stock exhaust manifold is plenty open

So then the only things really worth port-n-polishing are the Intake manifold, head and TB. Maybe bore it out an extra 2 or 3 mm??? Would getting a 3 angle valve job be benefitial also??

yes, this IM will be sheet metal and using the top half of the existing manifold.

work is coming along ok. i did some exploring over the weekend in the engine bay. we're getting there.

OMG why would you port this IM ?

oh never mind....

We have 3 cars handy to test the IM on, a stock 1.8, 2.0 and a modified 2.0, maybe even a 1.6 if we can get things back and forth from down south.
Twilight is more into the porting side of things so he may be able to work out what people with oversized exhaust valves and porting will need outside of stock, I'm just doing the CAD work and welding on the IM.
If you have already ported the head we should just need to know what the new opening clearance is so that twilight can advise you from there.

I haven't done the porting/polishing yet, but in the future Im going to. Would you be able to port match everything if I were to have Andrew port the IM (if its needed)? Could other jobs could he do? Bore out the TB? Get a valve job done?

gav, as long as i have some where to stay for a few over night gigs it shall all be good, and we can probably get a lot done remotley... btw i'm gonna get me a set of digital verniers so hopefully can give you what you need

ahb11m: If you can get the measurements accurately off your IM and intake ports that would be great. The biggest problem with the 1.6 ZM is the design is markedly different from FP and FS already. I am not sure the ZM would work in the same way that the FX models are intended to either, so the gains are questionable until a prototype can be made. Also please understand that the FXs are getting the highest priority at the moment until the design is sorted and refined.

not really much to say, however this weekend coming is a long weekend and i'll have some time to really get stuck into this
