Getting new bpv...had few questions, for forge owners and new turbosmart bpv

Okay guys, I just recently sold my turbosmart dual port bov. I didn't like the sound of it on full recirc. On 50/50 is sounded awsome, but my car would pop like crazy, every gear. I even adjusted it and got it pretty good, but it still popped every now and then. So I've decided to come back to bpv, as I never had a problem with that with my old forge. The only down side to the forge is the "mario coin" sound at the end of the clean "pshhhh". I love the sound of the forge before, I loved that it was loud, but not crazy loud like others I've heard on the road. The turbosmart was just as loud, but I loved the fact that the "pshhhh" sounded more aggressive and deep on 50/50. On full recirc however, I didn't like the sound at all. I know I'm going to have different response from different members, I'm open to both sides. My dilemma right now is which bpv to go with again, I still kept my forge just in case I changed my mind, but saw that turbosmart came out with a new bpv on SU. Also I wanted to know if any members have tried this new bpv and hear what they have to say. Like I said I have the forge and it sounded better after I got the cobb inlet, but sometimes it made this barking noise, haha didn't know what that was about. Thanks!

Try going back to stock!

Yeah, I know, I'm in the low noise, no noise "crowd" (all what, two or three of us, lol) and that may not be very popular with the general demographics of our owners.

But most guys have figured out by trial and error, some of it expensive trial and error, that our engines need to have the valve in full circ to run properly, and that some of the "won't hold boost" is the ECU edging the boost back rather than the valve leaking.

If you are holding boost, regardless of the bad rep the stock valve has, it's hard to beat it from the standpoint of reliable performance.

I am interested in the new, yet to go on sale, Turbosmart true BPV, because it may be better constructed than the factory BPV. But I hope it operates as silently as possible or can be made to do so without losing functionality.

yea i feel you man. i had the forge valve and loved the performance, but hated the sound so i got rid of it. for the past 6 weeks or so i was on the fence about getting a different one and what kind. i was really leaning toward that new turbosmart bpv thats coming out but know one actually has it yet and i would like to get plenty of consumer opinions before buying the product. im sure it will be great considering its done by turbosmart but you never know till we get some ginny pigs. the price is definately affordable($150). i ended up just breakin the bank and getting the dual port last week. so far i love it in 50/50. no problems so far. seems to be set up perfect from SU. havent tried it yet in recirc but plan on doing so soon.

Yea, I have a friend who just bought the turbosmart dual port and doesn't want it anymore, so I was thinking of getting a boost gauge to set the turbosmart on the right boost to see if the pops go away, he's a good friend of mine so I wouldn't have a problem testing it out to get it to work right. What do you guys think, I was going with the cpe gauge package from pg. Seems pretty oem and I need see whats going on with the boost. I don't really like the dashawk so it's not realy an option, was concedering it, but after seeing how it looks in the car and the mounting brackets being a pain. I no longer want to go with it. Thanks fort he info! I don't want to go back to stock

Get the aeroforce Interceptor scan gauge and mount it in the driver side vent pod. Same as dashhawk but in a round gauge and your vent will still work. Only draw back is you can't hook it up to a computer and get pretty graphs like the dash hawk. It does have a record and playback, viewable on the gauge.

i can see how you feel that way with the dashawk but its a lot more practical for your situation since it seems like you just want to set up your valve but keep in mind a dashawk is good to have because you can monitor other stuff that you really need to other than the boost. and your definately right about the mounting bracket that comes with it because its pretty much useless. i went out and got this really good velcro stuff from home depot for a few dollars and made it work. set mine up to where it would be easy to remove whenever im leaving the car parked somewhere unsafe. so i suggest you go with the dashawk anyways because its the best option and you can get a lot out of it. in fact i think anyone with a MS3 should have a dashawk even if they're all stock because there is just so much you can do with it.

So if I just get a cobb ap, will I need to go back to the stock bpv? I've heard the cobb ap doesn't work well with aftermarket bov's. Also heard the cobb ap is better than gauges and the dashawk, because you can tune your car also! Anyone out there have this set up with the turbosmart?

I personally love my forge but am interested in the new turbosmart valve..
The cobb ap should be able to work with any valve considering you can tune the car to its needs
I might be wrong but i think the cobb ap pretty much displays everything the dashhawk does...all of the important stuff atleast ; )
If I were you I would stick that forge you still have on and wait for people to post vids of the turbosmart and see if you like it

Stock valve = garbage ! Mine was losing 2 psi. With stock boost solenoids you dont see it. For anyone running a MBC it becomes very obvious. The new TS valve looks to me like it will operate just like all the crappy greddy valves. Since you cant swap springs like forge you get this screw to crank on to make it stiffer. The problem is the more you turn it the less it will allow the piston to move because the chamber literally gets shorter. I stand by forge 100%. No leaks, full adjustability, reliable. What more could you want....

Any valve that is not 100% recirculated is not recommended. Atmospheric venting on any car with a MAF sensor before the BOV is never a good idea. I know there are plenty of people who do it anyways. Some didnt k ow any better, other were aware that it is not a good idea, but are such big ricers all the want is noise.

i dont see why people think its so bad to run vta on these cars. it might make you run a little rich if anything. it really isnt enough to cry about.

Actually running a little rich is what our cars do from the factory.. running VTA worsens this and can cause backfiring which CAN be BAD
If you plan on tunning i guess its not a big deal

but if your like most daily drivers having the basic bolt-ons...
VTA is not the way to go

Dumping previously metered air to atmosphere is just plain silly. That air, including its oxygen molecules, is supposed to be going into the engine so is can make POWER, rather that VTA to make NOISE.

It's not just a matter of running even more rich. It's a matter of robbing the engine of oxygen the ECU thinks it is getting.
