Getting a P5... colour choice!

Well, I'm kinda tired of friving my piece of **** 1989 MX6 to work, and have decided to get a good commuter car for around $20k CDN. Looked around, and thought the Protege 5 would be a good contender, AND IT IS! For $25 AFTER TAX, you get a fully loaded P5. Handles nice, the 130hp isn't much to write home about, but it's a practical car I'm after, the "sports car" will have to come next year. Owell. Here are the colour choices:

midnight blue

sunlight silver metallic

sunburst yellow

pure white

[dr.evil]"LASER BLUE"[/dr.evil] (my personal fave...)

and he said he wsa paying 25K for an MP% ..man canadians must be used to being screwed ... if anyone tried to sell me a p5 for even $20,000 I would bounce like a bad check i mean i love the car but it is sooo not worth that price

Medicguy, hello and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. (stash)

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!! (stash)

PERSONALLY....I like the YELLOW....but had the Lazer Blue been an option when I got my P-5 I think I very well MAY have gone for that.....although I just LOVE the looks and attention the yellow draws... :{D

MP5Raycer....you have to remember he is talking CANADIAN DOLLARS....not US dollars....do the conversion....you will find he isn't paying any more for his than you did yours....at least its in the ballpark.

You know in Canada they pay for things with CANADIAN dollars, not US Dollars. Todays exchange rate = $1 CAD = $0.64 USD

So $25K Cad = $16,100 (approx) USD (canada)

Not too bad AFTER taxes!:D

Those look so clean without the roof rack mounts. You can see what I went with. Are the tail lights any different too?

Nope the tails are exact same...but the light housings are Black indeed...and they look WICKED!!.

Unfortunatly i got a 2002 so mine are Crome...can't wait till an affordible light housing come on the market...OEM black light housing are 395$CDN each!!!!!! WTF?

U.S guys got the side markers before us Canuks and your rims are different...but that all changed for 2003. I think us Cannucks got old stock and you guys got the new ones in 2002.

You are thinking of the 2002.5 model. They have the side markers and the new style rims. Also, the new cupholders.

Those cupholders suck ass. I've had 2 lids come off already (used the things 3 times now). The first time half my large coke went into my lap (damn that was cold), I managed to not spill it on the seats.

Common sense engineering note: Don't locate the holders such that the cup hits the dash, and the shifter blocks reach of the cup. Probably some rookie styling chump thought it looked better in that spot:(

They all look so nice... It reminds me when I was looking for a P5, I couldn't decide on the colors for days... The laser blue wasn't available yet, but it was still hard to pick a color.

I end up getting a black one, but could have been white or blue. I'm happy with what I've got, I don't have any regreats. Only the leather seats:(

One good advise I can give you: Think about it really hard because you don't want to regreat later. I believe I was lucky because I almost went for the white one. I would have been really sad if my P5 was white with no leather...

I like this one a lot:

Good luck on your search!

Almost forgot, welcome to the forum!

Hey all and thanks for the warm walcome! :D

Couple of things:

-is/was leather an option? I couldn'tfind it ANYWHERE on the list, and it's something I'd REALLY like to have

-yes, we here in Canadiana seem to get the shaft price wise, but when it's converted, it's not really that bad :p

-called the stealership again today, and was suprised to find out that they weren't in that much of a rush to do any haggling on the final price. As of right now, with $0 down. my payments will be aboot $517, and I'm trying to get it to the $450 mark. Hmmm... I'll have to work on them a but more, beacause if they're going to be that inflexible, I may go elsewhere.

Another thing: mods. What are the most popular "first" mods to do? i/h/e?

Well, untill next we meet!!

Meddie!

Shoot, forgot to ask, how is that automatic/tiptronic (?) tranny? Responsive? Does it let you keep the gear until redline?

It's your car, so you should get what you like, not what others like. I let someone influence my decision on color (sorry... "colour" :)) and that may have been bad.

I'd echo the sentiments of GXL: "Think about it really hard because you don't want to regreat later". I took only 10 minutes to decide on color after taking a week to decide on the car. Even though yellow wasn't available at the dealer and is a little loud for this 34 year old, I'll wonder about my choice for years, I'm sure.

That said, I'd mention that silver is a nice color on a car, but it is also currently the most popular, at least in the U.S. If you want to blend in, get silver. If you want your color to scream out "look at me!" get yellow, red, or laser blue. Black and dark blue are classy. I got black.

As a side note, I was ready to plunk down $28k U.S. for a Benz C230 when the dealer tried to jack the price up to $29k. I was upset so I left and bought the MP5 two months later for about half the price. The Benz would have been silver. :-)
