instructions look crystal clear

a friend of mine told me that cold air intake can cause water to get into your engine and totally mess your engine up. he said becausemost cold air intakes have soemthing running to the bottom of the car....how is this cold air intake setup....i live in florida and it rains alot so its def a concern....

thats a generalization that is not always true. the cold air intake itself is not what normally causes hydrolock - basically your engine cannot compress or combust water, as water does not combust like gasoline etc. on many cold air intakes, the filter sits lower or further away from the engine bay where your hotter temps are going to be. if the filter ever gets submerged, yes you could run the risk of sucking up water and damaging the engine. when i say submerged, i am talking over a foot of standing water for many of these intakes. if the design of the cold air intake is such that the filter is EXTREMELY close to the ground, it may become damp or soaked during heavy rain and you will get a small amount of water into the intake.

what some intakes have - this one included - is a few safegaurds, whether it be a waterproof sock for the filter, bypass valve or filter shield. this particular intake, as you can see in the image, has a metal filter shield to prevent things from getting to the filter that would impede performance.

regardless and suffice to say, with the mazdaspeed/mazda warranty being what it is on this intake and the shield that comes with it, i do not believe rain will be an issue on this intake as it would on intakes from other vehicles susceptible to those kinds of problems.

the only times i have seen water damage becuase of cais is when there has been a an at least 2 foot of water storm..so if you live in new orleans..you may the only that have to worry for now.

down pipe

Hey capt.
Do you know if the mazdaspeed ms3 down pipe is out or are you planning another group buy?

Man my birthday is in a month, I wonder if I can convince my wife to get me an early present. I am still waiting for the dynos, they should be out next week, someone has already got the baseline done on another unnamed forum. For all those concerned about warranty I spoke with my service manager and he said as long as it says mazda on it they will treat it like it came from the factory with the intake on it. I have been reading peoples reviews and watching some vids of cars with this intake on and it seems to be a solid piece of equipment. Plus it makes the car sound bad ass, whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooosh. I need this, sorry for the babbling but I have dreams about this intake and I am fighting the urge and trying to be responsible. I hope this group buy doesn't end before I figure out what I knew all along, that I can't live without this intake.

Hmmm, should have looked for a post first. Oh well, hey.. just ordered one of these.. its the one going to Jacksonville, Fl. Any idea when Im gonna get that puppy??
