2006 6, looking into MS6
So I have a Mazda 6 with a V6, and I realize of course bigger engine=more gas, but I'm getting pretty bad gas mileage, only 220 miles to the tank. Is this pretty common or do have a project in my near future?

if i had to guess i would say your o2 sensor is not working causing your car to run rich.

a friend had an 02 sensor wire melt causing his to stop working and the milage of his 4 banger turbo honda dropped to that.

Thanks, I have been thinking it was running rich and sensors could be an easy fix. Hooray for waranties! I'm getting it to the dealer on Monday to take a look and get some touch up paint

So the dealership said everything looks great, but it did need a software update?!? Thanks to the warranty i got it for free and an oil change and it seems to be running better for the moment.

Does this work with the MS6 too? I've looked at all the common risk factors (tire pressure, oil, air filter, etc.) and couldn't find anything. Hmmm.

There is a reflash for the speed6 but its not specifically for mileage issues.... Im getting 18-20 mpg from mine so if you drive hard dont expect great mileage....

I live in a small town. If I accelerate too quickly, I'm already outside city limits.

edit:
how would I find out if my car has had its reflash?

The dealer will have to check it using the MDS tool and see which flash revision you have.

I get 19-22 right now, and in the summer I've hit 24-28mpg on trips. It's not what speed you cruise at, but how fast you accelerate to get there that kills it.

I'm getting 22 city and 26 highway right now. In the summer I typically get 26 city and 33+ highway. It's all in how you drive. You definitely need to pay attention to where you get your gas though. Look for places with above ground tanks (you'll know them when you see them). You may also need a fuel filter change.

Man, you drive like an old woman.

Around here, I don't think I've ever seen above ground tanks in MI. Must be a southern thing.

I would also recommend using a 1/4 bottle of Heet every other tank throughout the winter. You don't want to use more than that for fear of fouling the plugs, but it will be enough to keep water and condensation from building up in the tank/lines.
