Gas in Oil during 1st oil change in my CX-7

Upon having my oil changed for the first time at 4,000 miles the tech. said to take it to the dealer because I had gas in my oil. I told him to save the old oil filter because it smelled like gas really bad! I took it to Mazda and they proceeded to tell me that this is normal on the first oil change because the valves have not completly seated. They still have not answered my question as to what possible damage this has or could have done to my engine.

I was wondering if any other CX-7 owners have had this problem. It sounds like a bad excuse to me. So now I wait for the Mada help line to call me back.

I do see how an increse in fuel in the oil could be during the early break-in period. Used oil analysis will often show a percent or two of fuel if you do mostly short trip driving i.e. 1-3 miles to work and back. Some fuel in the oil is not good but, usually causes no long term harm. I would just keep an eye on this and I would expect it to be a non issue as the miles increase. I believe as do others that a 10+ mile drive at highway speeds is one of the best things you can do for your engine as it allows water & fuel to be burnt off and evaporated. keep us informed. Ed

Update!

I took it in to the dealer again at 4,500 miles. After only 500 miles the oil was 1/4 of a quart over full and has a fuel smell to it. The dealer nor Mazda really wants to do anything about it yet. They put in a call to the tech. service people at Mazda but they told them to just keep an eye on it. This is really starting to piss me off!

Recommend you see an independent mechanic and get it evaluated.

Vince.

You need an oil analysis ASAP to get real data instead of guessing. I've been doing this for over 5 years now. Let me know if you need help!

Here is what an oil report looks like (this is my CX-7 posted at another forum) Notice the fuel in the oil indicated as TR (trace)...no second guessing here; just facts.

Guys,

Here is the first report on my CX-7.

Blackstone comments: RICARDO: The high wear metals and silicon are not unusual finds in the oil from your new Mazda. The
wear is high due to break-in of new parts, while silicon is from sealers and sand-casted parts. The trace
of gas and mildly low viscosity didn't hurt anything. Universal averages show typical wear metals for oil
from this engine after 5100 miles use. We expect your engine will look that good or better in two or three
more oil changes. The Mazda 2.3L 4-cylinder ends to wear very nicely, and yours will too once it's past
wear-in. Check back to see improvements.

My commute is very easy on the car. I've moved from San Antonio, TX to Waynesville, MO. Traffic jams are a thing of the past. I do floor it and have floor it quite a bit. I should also mention I dumped the factory oil at 210 miles and re-filled with this batch. Current mileage is 3700 miles.
