Gas - Higher Octane

How do the Mazda OBD2 computers handle higher octane? Do they run as they always do or would they get better performance and or higher miles per gallon?
A couple more miles per gallon would be nice to save on visiting the gas stations so often and also I like the idea of the cleaning adatives that BP uses in their premium gas. If there is no improventment then I might just use STP treatment every so often.

Thanks

I have 09 6 4cyl manual
My BPT requires premium or else detonation

On the older cars, like my Dad's 95 miata, it performs worse with high octane gas for some reason. I never noticed a difference on my Protege when I was using the stock ecu so I always used regular. With the brand new cars- like your 6- I doubt there is really going to be a noticable performance gain. You can always try it out for a week or two. it shouldn't hurt anything.

I doubt you will have any problems running 93, but you probably wont be able to tell the difference between it and 91.

all its telling you is its resistance to detonation, so running higher octane doesnt really give performance so going from like 91 to 93 not a big differance or even from 87 to 93 but you may see a little better mpg but only by a few.

well, ever since i got my 03 pro i use 93 octane so i dont really know,.,.,never use regular.,..,

should be fine i wouldnt use any less and if its modified i really wouldnt but your not going to see power gain or any problems with obd2

If your engine says it requires 87, then use 87. As stated above, higher octane has higher resistance to detonation.... Your wasting your money otherwise... 2 dollars at a time!!
