Gas Cap is stuck

That's how my gas cap is placed, too (in the video) - but there's no magnet either. In that video, I can't tell there's any magnetic force

I have a new model, its DEFINITELY plastic. It screws in, but it looks like if it doesnt engage correctly it could easily deform and cause the original issue where it would be stuck on.

That happened to me about 3 months ago. Spent about 10 minutes trying to get it off at Costco, broke the cap off the white plastic threads, and finally had to ask if anyone had a screwdriver to lend me. Pried the threads out and finally was able to get some gas. Went to the dealership the next day and they got it replaced in 15 minutes, and said it was happening quite often in the summer.

Magnetic cap?!?! Mine is definitely not magnetic!

For all those saying that it is not magnetic, check it out again. And to clarify; I am not talking about it being held by a magnet instead of screwing on, I am talking about the little magnet that it has to hold it to the gas door while you are filling up.

None of us, well at least not me, have any magnetic forces on the cap or the fuel door. We all have the clips and tabs but no magnetics....

I'm telling you, you got the only one!

Maybe he got one of the newer/updated models? I just went and checked mine again and there are definitely no magnets in my cap.

OK, so after I took my pile of scrap metal, bolts, and nuts & verified which were ferrous/magnetic by sticking them to my magnetic parts bowl, then took the same bits & parts and watched them have no reaction to the gas cap, what more do I need to do?

Never mind that the gas cap has absolutely no magnetic attraction to the filler door. It frequently falls out of that lame little tab that's supposed to hold it in place. And when it does stay in place, it does not sit flush against the door as you would expect it to if it were magnetic.

Why they couldn't just put a little slotted plate in the the back of the filler door like every other manufacturer is beyond me.

im surprised nobody else has said it...

pics or it didnt happen...

Its not a magnet holding it in place in that video, its just that little tab.

The guy who posted the vid on the other forum stated that it is magnetic, and that is what inspired me to check my old one out in the first place, and sure enough it was magnetic. The new one is poop :(

the first time I tried to fill up our '09 after we got it I was at the gas station for 10 min trying to get the damn thing off. My wife had filled up a couple times prior to that and had got used to how to open it. After swearing and calling her on the phone I finally got it loose and filled up. Ever since then, it has not been a problem. Same gas cap.

Had the gas cap get stuck on me at my last fillup. Finally got it to pop loose, but I thought I was gonna be in serious trouble for a minute there. Car was on E too, so I really needed to get the damn thing out of there.

My gas cap got stuck when I was on a road trip as well. I think it was my own stupidity more than the actual cap. I had tightened it down while crossthreaded. I had to break the cap to get it off. Luckily they carry a replacement gas cap at any of the major auto parts stores for relatively cheap ($15-20) which was much easier than removing mods.
