kit was 37.99 US....6000.00 CDN
I only had two jacks. Popped the front end up first, tool wheels off, painted thin coat on first one, went to 2nd cali, painted it...waited about 20 mins, and started another coat of the first again...repeat put wheels back on, lift up rear end, take them off..repeat again...ta da and so on..
Took my time painting them. I never had to tape off anything. In fact, when leaving the calipers on, it's almost harder to tape them all off then to just use a small paint brush and paint them carefully. I did buy a small artist brush. The cal's have some tight spots that the brush that came with the kit would not have fit well.
The kit came with a brake cleaner....it's crap. Basically, scrub down the cali's really good before applying paint. Use a steel brush if you got one, and scrub it hard.
All together...it took about 5-6 hrs. But I waited a lot in between each coat. And, I was using a VERY small garage and I didn't have much room, and that slowed me down as well. I found with just two coats, it still looked like "I" painted it. But with 3 coats, it looks like a new part. It's VERY glossy paint once it dries.
If you buy the stuff, be careful mixing it. There's a reactant that you have to mix with it. It's a 1:4 ratio mix. And I found that while the paint dried quickly, at least, just to touch it....that it never really hardened up till almost 2 days later. You can drive it around fine though....but wait at least overnight to do it. And a bit of warning, after about 5 hours, the paint starts to get REALLY thick as the reactant starts to work.......this means your running out of time! Wait about 20 mins after you mix the reactant with the paint as well.
I like it. I've had many compliments. I had some other guys ask me where I got the new brakes....I said "special order from Japan," laughed and walked away....hee hee. But that's what it looks like, a brand new part. Big improvement and now when I wash the car, I can just spray the cali's, and all the brake dust, and dirt/crap just washes off nicely....so far so good. Now, let's see if it stands the test of time.
Just for the hell of it, say middle of summer during a time I got the wheels off for a rotation anyways, I'm going to take the other 1/2 can I got, and put another good coat on each one. Don't really need it, but why not.
