G2 Brake Caliper Paint

Anyone got a pictures of this stuff on theirs? a close up? I'm wondering if this stuff will look like it's "brushed on". I had this in another thread, but I don't think it was getting noticed.

TIA

So you have to brush it on? Good, because I can control it better that way. Does the yellow match our car well? If so, I'm in.

yeah it's a paint kit. includes, brake cleaner, paint brush, and of course paint (imagine that) and the paint mix you put into the paint to make is resistant to heat ( it's resistant to some insanely high number 1500 degrees or something). It's supposed to be the best paint out there for this stuff. Costs about $40.00 american.

I don't have it on mine yet. Got to wait for the snow to go first. And Yes I have yellow. There's blue, red, black, white, yellow.

I'd like to see some pics of someone who has it on their car. P5/MP3...don't matter. Probably should have posted this in the general mazda group....oh well. I know someone here has it done to their car because he's the one that told me about it ages back. Just can't remember who.

Because it's a brush though, I'm scared it's not going to look professionally done. I do have access to an air brush. But it's quite a bit of hassle to go and get it, and another hassle to get the car ready to do it.

??? Anyone?

Hey Newf, I think it was me who told you about the paint.
Anyway, I have an yellow MP3 and painted mine yellow to match the color of the car. The G2 yellow color is pretty close to the vivid yellow of the MP3/P5 so it really looks nice. Sad part is that I don't have any pictures.

But I sent you an e-mail with more info so hopefully it would help.

Sorry once again, and take care. :(

Air brushing would be a real pain....not to mention any spray would be more of a pain to control the overspray....

go and take a good look at your caliper....the texture of the casting is really rough on the outside....you can NOT tell its a brush job...and to tell you the truth....putting it on with a bruch is a LOT CLEANER than doing it with spray......not to mention...you get a thicker coat of paint...and you can imagine how hostile the environment down there is in the first place.

Sir Nuke: Good point.

Yellowmonster: Your email was a great help.

http://www.spydermagazine.com/2000/may/Calipers/Calipers.htm

That's a link to a page where some guy used the same paint on his mr2. Compliments of Yellowmonster. I hope he doesn't mind. But it's got some great shots up close of the cali's and it's yellow as well.

Thanks guys. I'm getting some good brushes and taking my time putting on 2-3 coats.

automart is all sorts of screwed up...anything I click on generates a script error...

update

Painted mine about 3 weeks ago. I never had time to post pics till now

Check out the before and after folders if your interested in seeing the g2 paint kit

http://photos.yahoo.com/newfmp3

Stuff goes on pretty easy. I got 3 coats on each. Still had 1/2 a can left. Really nice color, I like it.

Of course, the pics are taken with the same bad agfa camera from work as the rest are, so bare with me.

How much did you pay for the kit? And where did you pick it up? How long did it take to do all four? Could you describe the steps you went though?

Thanks!

Looks good!

kit was 37.99 US....6000.00 CDN :)

I only had two jacks. Popped the front end up first, tool wheels off, painted thin coat on first one, went to 2nd cali, painted it...waited about 20 mins, and started another coat of the first again...repeat put wheels back on, lift up rear end, take them off..repeat again...ta da and so on..

Took my time painting them. I never had to tape off anything. In fact, when leaving the calipers on, it's almost harder to tape them all off then to just use a small paint brush and paint them carefully. I did buy a small artist brush. The cal's have some tight spots that the brush that came with the kit would not have fit well.

The kit came with a brake cleaner....it's crap. Basically, scrub down the cali's really good before applying paint. Use a steel brush if you got one, and scrub it hard.

All together...it took about 5-6 hrs. But I waited a lot in between each coat. And, I was using a VERY small garage and I didn't have much room, and that slowed me down as well. I found with just two coats, it still looked like "I" painted it. But with 3 coats, it looks like a new part. It's VERY glossy paint once it dries.

If you buy the stuff, be careful mixing it. There's a reactant that you have to mix with it. It's a 1:4 ratio mix. And I found that while the paint dried quickly, at least, just to touch it....that it never really hardened up till almost 2 days later. You can drive it around fine though....but wait at least overnight to do it. And a bit of warning, after about 5 hours, the paint starts to get REALLY thick as the reactant starts to work.......this means your running out of time! Wait about 20 mins after you mix the reactant with the paint as well.

I like it. I've had many compliments. I had some other guys ask me where I got the new brakes....I said "special order from Japan," laughed and walked away....hee hee. But that's what it looks like, a brand new part. Big improvement and now when I wash the car, I can just spray the cali's, and all the brake dust, and dirt/crap just washes off nicely....so far so good. Now, let's see if it stands the test of time.

Just for the hell of it, say middle of summer during a time I got the wheels off for a rotation anyways, I'm going to take the other 1/2 can I got, and put another good coat on each one. Don't really need it, but why not.

OH, and I got it from streetbeatonline.com.....but DON'T order from them, they suck big time....just search the forum for my other post about it. It basically took about 2 months to get the right order sent to me.

You can get the stuff a few places online. I think automart.com is another.

Sorry dude,

MP3 Vivid Yellow or Lazer Blue Mica
P5 Sunburst Yellow

Those colors are not even close to the same.

are you saying that the Mp3 and P-5's yellow aren't even close? or did you mean that the G2 paint wasn't close?

cause if you ment that the MP3 and P5 weren't close...you are wrong there...however...if you are talking about the G2 paint, that is another matter all together...

HOWEVER IF the MP3 Yellow is called Vivid Yellow, which I know it is...SO is the P-5's they have the SAME PAINT CODE...and have the same name....as you can see by the window sticker that came off of my P-5.

the car that they called that color Sunburst Yellow was on the Miata...NOT the P-5.

Can't say I've parked next to a P5 and compared to two colors since I painted them. But, just eyeballing the two colors...the g2 paint is damn close to the p5 yellow. I can't say exactly until I see it parked next to a yellow p5. Not a problem there as there seems to be dozens of them around now.

I will say this: It's NOT the same color as the strut tower bar. The tower bar is a little darker. The G2 paint is a very bright color and glossy, very nice. If it was any darker, it would look dull and dirty. To be REALLY picky, the mp3 logos are a shade darker then the g2 paint. But not much. Unless your face is 3 inches away from the car, you won't notice it.If the cali's were the same as the mp3 logo, I think it would be too dark.

I'm really happy with the color.

from what I have heard...the G2 paint is a shade different...but like you said...unless you are TRYING to compare them...and get like 3 inches away....you can't tell....but the bottom line of all this is.....the G2 yellow paint does look nice, and IMO especially nice on the Mica Blue, Midnight Blue, Black, White and Yellow cars...I don't care for it that much on the red....I think the red looks better with red calipers. JMO

oh BTW....the strut tower bar IS vivid yellow on your car.....wish mine was.....I still can't figure out why they put YELLOW bars on the mica blue MP3's...and red one's on every thing else....hmmmm I think the yellow bar would look nicer under the hood of my yellow p-5.....I could always paint it...but its not THAT big a deal.

yeah that's strange how they did that with the tower bars. Somebody screwed up there.

And yeah, I agree that red cars should have red cali's. It looks really sharp.

All I can say is, whether or not the paint is pretty is one thing....I bought this stuff because it's supposed to last. Now, all I can do is cross my fingers and wait. Only time will tell.
