G^&*#$ f&*(&Cing KIDS

Dino....you have a LOT of great ideas here.....but the bottom line is....the ONLY way you can make this go away is to catch him in the act and prosecute....the only way this works is if its a PAIN IN THE ASS for the parents too.... you need to catch the little s*** IN THE ACT...detain him...call the police....fill out a report...and make sure the officers know this is NOT the first time....granted you can't PROVE he did it before...but the cops will either take the little s*** to the parents OR have them come and pick him up at their precinct house.....you have got to get the point across that you are not playing a game its serious.

your question about the super glue drying.....NO it won't. HOWEVER, YOU mentioned a good point...its illegal to set up ANY kind of TRAP....YOU could end up in as much or more trouble for doing it...catching him...then HIS parents prosecute YOU for TRAPPING and causeing some harm to their darling child, regardless of the fact that he was in the commision of a crime when it happened.

So i can put regular "super glue" on them and it won't dry? And it will dry to his fingers instantly? Hmmm.

Yeah, I bascially intend to catch him and do exactly as you said.

Kooldino, my thug ass brotha, (bicker) do not turn your alarm all the way up(trust me).

(no) don't beat up little kids.

I know you're (flame) , but as Nuke said, you need to catch them in the act.

(yellomp3) Drive on!

I've had similar problems with some little brats around our house with previous cars. Luckily, they really like the mp3 and leave it alone.....so far.

But I agree with Sir Nuke. This is going to go on forever, or get worse by him actually doing damage to the car unless you do this right.

At least get a camera. Maybe even a camcorder, stick in the car or something. But you've got to have proof. Remember if he does it at night, the camera has to have a good enough picture to pick him out. Ultimately, getting him on camera, AND catching him personally would be the best thing. Then the cops have him red handed, and video taped proof.

Another thing people don't think of is writing down all of this. Keep track of the dates that you've noticed the valves missing. And keep the reciepts of the new ones bought. It all helps to show a history of criminal activity.

If you ever do catch him, be sure to watch that car of yours even more carefully for the next while afterwards so that someone doesn't seek revenge

Good advice man, thnx.

OMFG! That's hilarious! HAHAHAHAHA.
Nice work!

Derrick: I gotta turn the alarm all the way up SO that I can catch him...I hear beeps...I RUN outside.

Kooldino

You said you live in an apartment building.

Does the apartment complex have any type of security camera or network? If they do, ask them to put the camera on your car for a few nights. You go out in the morning and the valve covers are gone and the security camera caught it all on tape!

I would presonally stay up and wait one night. Did that with my first car. Someone broke the driver's side window and front windshield with a baseball bat and poured beer all over the interior one night. I stayed up the next 3 nights and caught the sons of bitches. My dad and I held them at gunpoint so they wouldn't run until the cops got there.

We could get away with the brandishing a gun because they were on our property. You probably couldn't get away with it in a public place like an apartsment complex.

Good Luck, though. Keep us informed

Hey dino, check your pm's, great idea involving a sling shot and a bucket full of those covers :D
Also have a quick question for you.

If your back windows are tinted dark and the kid is stealing them in the day you could set up a camera in the back corner window and he'd never see it. Then you got your black mail muahahahaha. Or you could buy a paintball gun and shoot his ass! hahahaha he'll have one hell of a time explaining it if you go to his parents before he gets home then say you shot him with a paintball gun. MUAHAHAHAHA

id like some input from you guys on a matter related to this. I have a MS-Protege on order and for fun as well as for security, I have long been thinking about putting X10 cams in/under it. One thing i will definitely do, is mount one in the front of the car discreetly in the grill or something so I can record video of racing down a windy road or something, the lower to the ground the cooler it will look IMO..........another thing I really want to do is have cams set up for security. I am thinking that I want a camera that will record when the alarm goes off, probably on the rear deck facing out the back, or maybe one on the dash facing back and one on the rear deck facing front........at any rate the issue I am anticipating is how to record the video/photos. With a VCR there is time when the tape begins to record, a few seconds where it is getting started, might be my best option, but also, might be too long to be valuable as sometimes alarms go off when the crook closes your trunk after the theft or something like that where the next second could be valuable.......a computer oculd record the data, stills for example would be great, but would require boot time. With either method the device would ideally be powered on with the alarm as keeping it on full time would drain even a spare battery. Which brings me to the final notion I had with relation to this potentialy unreasonable project, having a second battery which does this recording in the event of an alarm trip which is wired to charge when the car runs. Its still in the dreaming phase, and im in no real hurry to materialize this since i have another month or two until delivery, but what do you guys think about these wacky ideas?

Wow, helluva story. SEe the thing is, if I DO wait up all night, where am I gonna sit? Unforunately, there are no cameras here, but I brought that up to the board.

Personally, I've been dreaming up similar systems for the past few years. And the problem I always ran into was recording media. If the cams were activated on motion, that would keep power consumption low, but then where would the data be stored? Maybe a mini VCR? that actually might work if the cameras are set to record on MOTION instead of the alarm going off...

If,

you can get the cameras to power on and power off only when motion is detected, there should be a way to hook up some type of CD-Recorder that will save a helluva lot of data if need be.

Just my $.03 USD

two words

DVD recorder

or one of those new tivo type jobbies. 30+ hours would do :)

But really, if it's only going to record once the motion sensors are tripped and then go off again after a few minutes, you won't need more then a vcr tape anyways.

laterz

i hadnt thought of the tivo option, i have never used one but i assume there is virtually zero lag between power on and data actually being recorded........we should get the thread opened up right now and save us the trouble later "$#%*@ kid stole my stereo! valve stem covers! and my TIVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
:D
