Fuel meter doesnt work

Hi, I have a 06 speed6 and last week it leaves me stuck because it ran out of gas. The thing is that the meter was on almost 1/4 or the first line from E to F and the yellow light never turns on. My question is, this is a common problem or it is just my car? Wht can I do?

The cheapest option is to fill the tank more often. If you have the cash, you could buy a new sender for the gauge. That would probably involve dropping the tank to access it.

Definitely a sending unit issue. The one on my 87 B2000 went bad shortly before I got rid of it. It would go all over the place whenever I was above half a tank but settled after that. Nice thing about having a truck... easy to drop the gas tank :D

Question; has your car been jacked up on one side recently? I had a similar issue to this a few months ago. I had rotated my tires (jacking up one side of the car at a time), and the gas had filled one side of the tank, causing the gauge to read 1/4 tank. It stayed like this for a couple of days until I lost my nerve and filled the car up in fear of being left stranded without gas.

The Speed6 has a tunnel in the center of the gas tank to clear the driveshaft, and if the tank is relatively low, and the car is jacked up to one side, the fuel will flow to one side of the tank, and stay there until the tank is filled again. Fill your tank and monitor your mileage while driving, if you get to 240 miles or so, and the needle hasn't dropped below the 1/4 tank mark, you might need a new fuel sender.
