Fuel filter change

Hard to imagine a fuel filter lasting that long without getting clogged. I have 57000 miles on my 07 MS3, and have wondered the same thing. My 94 Z28
with 184000 miles starts cutting out from a clogged filter at about 50000 miles
Sound like a PITA to change it on the Mazda.

It's a PITA on all vehicles anymore, except some/most/all diesels. I don't know if any cars with electric fuel pumps have external filters at all. The last external fuel filter I changed was on an '88 Chevy P/U.

I remember being shocked to learn that fuel pumps are in gas tanks. Seems crazy to put an electric motor in a gas tank. Guess it works, though.

It was a cinch to change out the one in my '02 WRX. Took maybe 10 - 15 minutes. I did it every 30K since it was cheap and easy. Bummer to hear about the one on the Speed3 though. Sounds like it might be better suited for a dealer.
