FS9 in Protege5

The stock motor in my protege 5 snapped a rod so I'm replacing the motor. I have the opportunity to install a JDM FS9 but I need to figure out if there is anything else I need to do to make this motor work.

1. Is this a worthwhile venture? Does this motor provide additional power over the stock American Protege5?
2. Will the ECU need to be replaced with an FS9 ECU? Can I use the MP3 ECU or stock ECU without issues?
3. Will this motor bolt up to the stock manual trans?
4. Are manual and automatic motors interchangeable? Would a motor out of an automatic fit my manual transmission?

FS9 is an MP3 ECU. It will work.

To answer your questions:
1- Yes, the MP3 ECU has a more aggressive timing and fuel curve. You sould see about 10HP from it.
2. FS9 is the number on MP3 ECU'.
3. If you are speaking about an MP3 motor bolting up in your P5, yes, they are are smae motor with the exception of the intake manifold. The MP3 does have the VTCS butterflies.
4. Yes they are interchangeable. An Automatic will have a flexplate and a manual uses a flywheel.

So the FS9 motor will be a direct replacement for my factory FS-DE? All I would need to do for the swap is an mp3/fs9 ECU? The bolt pattern on the auto motors should fit the bolt pattern on the manual trans correct? I apologize for the questions, I'm a Mustang guy but I wanted to add some power to my DD.

Also, I'm wondering what the FS9 motor is rated for power wise. I'm told its rated for 170 but that sounds high to me.

FS9 to me refers to the MP3 ECU. As for the FS9 engine you are referring to, what is it out of, MP3? If so, it's an FS-DE engine and the same as your P5. As for the bell housing bot pattern, yes auto and manual are the same. If your P5 has an auto, you will need a flywheel for the manual. Auto's use a flexplate.

Hes thinking of the old protege engine before fs-de. The jdm of the 01-03 protege 2.0 is a fs-ze.

I found the ebay listing to say JDM FS9 FS-ZE 01-03 MP5, so thats where he got it from I guess.

You guys are confusing yourselves

All fsde's are fs9. Some of the fsze will have fsh9 or something like that on the cams but the blocks and heads are the same. Only difference is piston, cams, and intake manifold.

To swap in an fsze there are multiple things you will need to swap out a little bit of research and you will know what it is

Motor will go right in no issues. Stock fsze made 170 hp you won't see that with the extra emissions we have. Not to mention you can't run the fsze ecu.
