FS-ZE motor....how to indentify

Ford Lynx RS 2.0L
it is a FS-ZE 170hp J-spec?
Pls help gimme some tips on how to recongnize it is a FS-ZE.
I found a used engine in the local yard. It has auto tranny, but i could tell for sure it it a FS-ZE or FS-DE, if it is a FS-ZE, i want to buy it.

The FS-ZE is not 170hp. It's 170ps....

Look for the plenum chamber on the intake manifold.
 
look at the ignition,does it have coils over the plugs,or does it have them mounted in front of the motor,with longer wires?

it has coil over plug. and a rectangle box on the intake manifold. i'll take the pic this afternoon
 
The rectangular black box is for the VRIS system... Sounds like you may have found a winner. Hard to say without looking, or looking at what car it came from... What was the car, out of curiosity?

Oh, and guys, FYI, the J-Spec/E-Spec cars had coil over plug after '00 MY, when the US Protege's got it, it's just that the Sport20's from '99-01 were the 3rd gen, early body style, and shared it's coil packs with the 1.8L motor, the remote mount setup.
 
Here's a picture of what it looks like. This one has the coil packs that indicate that it's a '99 - '00 MY FS-ZE engine:

thats the pic I was looking to show him,but corksports took it off thier site.

You would have had to find a protege that has been modified pretty heavily if it was an FS-ZE engine. If I am correct those engines have to be imported from Japan to be sold through corksport. I don't believe that engine was put in any cars sold in the US.

Also, unless there have been some major advancements in the ECU dept. this engine is basically useless in an american Protege. We cannot control the variable valve timing (VICS I think to many V's floating around) with the american ECU, you would have to convert your car to RH drive to get the full function of the FS-ZE.

I hate being negative, Im sorry. I do hope that you found an FS-ZE though.

VICS = variable Intake Charge System ; not VVT
pretty easy to control, turn on the soleniod valve at certain rpm to switch long and short runner in the intake manifold. VVT i don't think an FS-ZE has it. Does it?

My car is RH drive. Anyway, i just interested in the cam shafts, and keep a spare motor handy if i lose the one i have now : )

I'm going to buy the motor. The motor is a wrecj, but most parts are still usable.

I'll be there MAy 25th-29th. I am going to kuala lampur for a couple and then to sarembon for a couple. Do you live anywhere near there?


Edit: Apparently, there is no MAy 35th.... I double checked.
