i have a 12" jl audio sub and a 2-channel kenwood amp. i was wondering which are the best front speakers for that combination? i have a budget of between $200 to $400 total for the pair. which brands are the best right now?

also, do i have to use a 5X7 speakers or can it be a 6X8 or any other size?

thanks a lot!

the 5x7 & 6x8 are made to fit in same hole, i have kicker components (6" round with seperate tweets) using template you can buy or make in my front doors & 6x8 infinity kappas in back doors, i'm happy with the sound. i also have two 12" RF p3's and RF 1000.1 amp. & 1 farad cap. in my 04 silver m3 hatch...

Which JL Audio Sub and which Kenwood amp? What do you have for a head unit?

To do this right you should purchase a 50-100w x 2 amp and a set of component speakers. However, everyone's budget is different and everyone's ears are different.

Here's an example:
Kenwood KAC-6202 $129.95

Infinity Reference 6810cs $159.95

Total: $289.90

Kenwood doesn't make great amps but it fits into your budget and you already have one. (I like to stick to a single brand for my amplifiers). The Infinity speakers are a good deal for the price. Again, they aren't the best out there...but you won't find anything better at that price.

amp

dude the 200 to 400 is just for a pair of front speakers....i was thinking either boston acoustic or mbquart for my speakers. infinity is good, and i would like to ask opinion on what other brands i could possibly use.

i think my amp is a kac 702 or something like that. my jl sub?i have no idea. it was a second hand model just like my amp, but i got them at good deals.

There are about a dozen brands out there that make great speakers. There is no need to mention them because only your ears will be able to tell you which speakers sound the best on the music you listen to. Go to a few shops with a compilation CD of songs you you listen to regularly. Demo each set of speakers and critique the highs, mids, lows, tonality, etc. Some speakers might sound very bright and detailed, thick and bassy, crisp and neutral, etc. Its up to you to decide. When you find something you like, have your wallet ready.

I bought 2 pairs of Infinity Kappa 6x8's for my doors and 2 Infinity Perfect 12's for the trunk. I run the subs off of a Kenwood mono sub amp that pushes 900w RMS. I think this is enough so depending on what amp you have it should do the job just fine.

The new Kappa door speakers are mighty fine because they have a 2 ohm voice coil so you get more out of whatever amp you buy. Free wattage I would have to say.

I have always like the sound of infinity door speakers and don't think I will go with anything else, but like they said, depends on what you listen to and how "good" your ears respond to different speakers. ( =
