I just bought my Msp about a month and have now saved some money and am ready to buy a front mount. I was wondering who was had the best luck with which ones and can you just buy a fmic kit for a stock msp or do you need some other parts

Ion performance makes a nice kit that several owners will attest to.

P.S. Welcome to the board!!

Wagner has a new kit coming out that looks very promising. There should be a recent thread on it with pics.

Just my 2 cents, you probably won't notice any power gains with a FMIC on a stock MSP. I would personally be unhappy spending $1,000 on an intercooler I didn't need. Honestly the stock sidemount is fine for the T25. You'll be a lot more satisfied with a turbo-back exhaust and boost controller first.

i saw the ion fmic on a friends msp, it looks pimp!! yeah i would also wait for wagner and see wich is cheaper.

Welcome to the forums, and the FMIC and exhaust ar ethe 2 first mods you should do.

First, the stock ic is a tube and fin design, carried over from the Eurospec turbo diesel. This IC heat soaks quickly, and cust your power down. an FMIC, itself will not create power for you, but will cool the charge air better, which creates more power.

The FMIC kits out there, use Bar and plate, which is more effective for cooling the charge air, and will be a great addition to the MSP.

The exhaust will show minimal gains, as the S pipe off the turbo is REALLY REALLY restrictive. The free flow of a larger exhaust will help, but not much until you replace the s pipe.

A boost controller I would not suggest, until you get some sort of engine monitoring, and or engine mgt. Too many people have popped motors recently, and I really do not suggest it. :D

for money vs horsepower mods, freeing up the exhuast would make the most horsepwr for the less money ie eliminating the cats next to turning up the boost but that is a little more tricky. like boostisgood said

I'm sorry man, but your posts are usually inaccurate/misleading. Honestly, no offense, but I have no idea how you conclude things like this, heh. :p

SpoolinMsp, good luck on whatever you decide to buy. But I just have to say one more time, it's sort of ridiculous to get a FMIC as one of your first mods, unless you just want it for show. Aluminum charge pipes with the stock IC however would be a great, less-expensive idea.

wrd!(yes)

Actually he does prove a good point..but it's a little off basis...The 2 cats..are what's restrictive...That's why an axel or a cat back..will not gain you much...but if you pull out the 2 cats..you will definetly got better spool up!

Definitely the cats are the worst part, but believe it or not the stock muffler is pretty restrictive itself.

I agree with boostisgoods post before he edited it :).

I personally would not up boost until I knew what I was doing. It sounds like your new to the forums and the car, I would do A LOT of reading on these forums in the FI section. And then the MSP section. Gather the info and form your own opinion.

The MSP has very weak rods. If you are thinking about turning up the boost, do not buy a Fuel Cut Defender. The Fuel cut will save your motor a lot of times. Also do not drive hard or in boost in 4th or 5th gear a lot, as they have the highest strain on your rods. Just be careful, a lot of people on the forums will help you out if you ask.

Also remember not to believe everything that is said on the internet. If you are so lucky enough, try to find actual people who on MSPs, or a tune shop, and let them look and discuss your car.

Back to the original question??

A FMIC is really needed mostly when you are interested in Upping The Boost. A turbo make more heat the faster it spins (Spools). When you up the boost what you are really doing is forcing the turbo to spin faster. This is done by forcing the wastegate to open at a higher boost pressure. Manual Boost Controller.

I agree with the majority here. If you don't plan to up the boost, you would be getting more value out of modifying your exhaust system. Remove one of the two cats and get a high flow style for the second one. DP mods and/or Turbo Back exhaust kits won't give you a HP gain, but it will make the boost pressure arrive faster ( Less Lag Time )

I hope this helped. The FMIC does make the car look dope, It's nice to have a good reason to get one as they are $$$.

One of the reasons for the front mount intercooler is for show. My goal is to be in HIN in Chicago by July or August so I am looking some stuff as far as looks. Exhaust will be my first mod for sure. I am leaning toward the corksport cat-back and then going out to get a downpipe that eliminates the second cat. I already have one cat removed. See here in Iowa you dont need to worry anything about all that emissions bullcrap. Has anyone purchased the Greddy cat-back yet? As far as turning up the boost, I am not even considering turning up my boost yet. That subject hasnt even crossed my mind.

One of the big reasons for the purchase of the fmic is because of funds that are available at this moment in time to make such a purchase

Thanks guys for the overwhelming response to my question. I think I am going to like these forums! You guys have been a great help! I appreciate it!

I dont the greddy cat back will fit our cars? I would go with the apex 3in cat back, with the apex catless 2.5 downpipe. The apex comes with the apexi n1.

If your going for show thats cool. Get a kickin system, and a lot of carbon fiber accessories over at some sponsor on the site. Like head cover etc.

I would hit up the appearance section for more info.
