Front Mount Intercoolers

Call Mack at Emerald Performance. His shop is in Ft Laud. He can do a custom FMIC for about $750 including material & labor. 954-682-7281. Plus I see you want a exhuast system done. He can do that also.

Wow that is a good deal. You could buy the parts yourself and save like $250, but for him to do all the work (measuring pipes, cutting, install), I think $750 is a great deal. Try to get them powder-coated beforehand if you want to do it... otherwise it's a pita.

when i do one, custom FO SHO!!!!! i'm just trying to get the whole crash bar thing figured out.

You're on 6club, right? There's a couple good threads on there. Go to the "FAQs" and look up "Big Mouth Syndrome" and the same name part 2. Joel, Qwik, and some others put some monsters in and cut the crash bar. I've seen others that didn't cut the crash bar... depends on IC size. Not trying to say there isn't great info on here as I'm sure there is, but I just happen to know of those particular threads :)

there is no real need to even cut the crash bar.

Boosted6 and myself have pretty fair sized cores and there was no need to remove the crash bars.

IIRC my fmic is thicker then boosteds and all i did was notch the bottom of the crashbar to get it to sit up a bit higher then boosteds. If you looked hard, it would still be hard to tell it was notched.

yeah, its possible to fit one with out modifying the crash bar. but i at least want as much cooling surface as my ETS TMIC provides.

also, blocking the entire area underneath the crash bar cant be good for airflow to the radiator. in my idea, one could actually increase airflow over the FMIC and rad. but it requires a complete re-design of the factory crash bar. and it doesnt effect the air panel underneath the rad either.

Cool. Did you happen to do a 'how to' by any chance? I hadn't looked on here (my fmic is already in, lol), and the threads I mentioned are the only ones I recall that were how to's.

DJ is putting a MONSTEROUS custom FMIC in his ride (waay to big for the stocker turbo... he's got a 3076 iirc). I was chatting with him before about the radiator issue as well. He was thinking of fabbing some figerglass to route air around in there. I've noticed my ECT runs a bit higher with the FMIC on, but I also hacked up my splitter, and reattached it. The CPE FMIC looks dumb dangling down there. I'm gonna take if off when I go to the track.

i want to open the whole grille area in the bumper. but the core i wanna go with would, ideally, have the same surface are as say a ETS 3.25" TMIC core. which is prolly as big as one would want to go with the stock turbo. so i would only use, say a 6" high, core. that way there would still be air flowing around the core and directly onto the rad.

i "think", dont quote, but sofar from what i have seen i am one of few to use a single sided ic where the inlet and outlet are on the same side.

that was by far the best since all the room is on the drivers side, i.e. no need to move the washer tank.

i've been considering that too. the single sided core. or even a core with the out on top at the end.

once you had the whole grille area available you could do all kindas of cores. thats why its my first priority. i dont wanna give up the crash bar, but its in the way, lol!

hey guys.. xtremeboost (frank) is suppose to be making crash bars for our cars that make all FMIC sit in the lower grille area.. if that falls through.. because i know he has a prototype out and everything, you can bet your own car on it that I will be making a new Crash Bar for my car during the build and will roll it into production depending on the results and such..

if i lost the crash bar, then my core would actually take up the whole grille. its pretty long. and was only 219 us. :)

let us know when this is done boostd.

i always lol at your plate. boo-std.

I'll probably make a thread of my custom intercooler journey once I get it done. Bought an intercooler and piping last week from cxracing. I can't wait.

no no, thats just how i read it... over and over again i just cant stop thinking it's supposed to be two words lol.

/Off topic discussion.

I am really looking foreward to a new crash bar setup so i can move my fmic foreward.
