Front diff replacement

Well, everything was going good, until I got high-pitched gear whine that wasn't affected by shifting or the throttle....basically came on at 30 mph, then got loudest at 65-75 mph. I looked around the threads, and figured it was the rear diff...tech called this afternoon, he's localized it to the front diff, which will be replaced under warranty. After that, they will check the rest to make sure the sounds are gone.

I was simply wondering, is this a common replacement/repair item on the MS6? And if it is, has everyone had it done? I know about the turbos, power windows, etc. just wondering about the weak points in the driveline, and what can be done to prevent this failure in the future. Thanks for anything you can come up with.

Every manufactured component on the car has some tolerances. Occasionally, you will have items that slip through quality checks and are past tolerances. More commonly though, you'll have items that mate together (similar to a ring and pinion gear) that are both at their tolerated limit. The two items, in theory, should still work together... but rarely will they for very long.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I'm sorry it happened to you. On a limited production run, I'm surprised we haven't had more differential failures to be honest.

what kind of mods do u have on the car if any??

glad they are replacing it for you under warrenty im hoping??

seems like ur dealership is a good one..

there are lots of weakpoints in our driveline, like blendercloud said it was a limited run of production for our cars and they werent made to have alot more power thrown at them then stock..

u could buy the TurbineTech and CP-E rear diff mounts to help the driveline out a bit..and also change ur fluids in ur transfer case, rear diff and transmission as well, that may help also.

heres the thread that explains what fluids u need and has some DIY pics that show where the drain and fill plugs are.

got the MS6 back after a week and a half...they replaced the transfer case, and now all is well. No more howling sound.

The only mods I have right now are: single-outlet magnaflow exhaust and springs. Currently waiting for Intake availability, then the rest of the standard mods.

Just hoping nothing else causes any headaches--this car is too fun to be sitting in a repair bay!
