Friggin Silverstars

dont touch the bulb when you put em in, the oil from your fingers will create heat spots on the bulb and make it burnout quick. you also get heatspots on the bulbs when you touch it to other objects, like when you put the bulb in the passenger side light housing you cant help but hit the metal housing there with the limited space. had my passenger side burn out in about 6 months cause i touched it like that.
Exactly right. I've had my Silverstars at least 8 months but last week the left one burnt out. And I know it's one I touched during install. I wiped it a bit but didn't worry about it because I thought hot spots only were a problem with quartz bulbs and I think these are glass. Or maybe not. I did save my old bulbs but I'm just going to add in another Silverstar more carefully this time and see how it goes before I make a judgement on them.

Before you install new bulbs ,clean them with rubbing alchol ,this will remove any oils from your fingers . The bulbs could be contaninated from the factory as well so cleaning will remove this as well .

Silverstars are actually excellent bulbs, many people dont like them, because they say they burn out quickly, i've had mine on my car since march, and i haven't had one single problem with them. If you use rubbing alcohol like someone else said, it helps a lot, and make sure you dont touch them with any part of your hands on the glass. Install carefully, and you shouldn't have any problems. Just my opinion.

I just bought silverstars the other day and I like them. God...what a pain in the ass though. I had to pull off my front bumper and pull out the headlights to put them in. Damn Injen and washer fluid bottles got in the way.

Hip, hip, ****** hooray!! The other bulb burned out. That's 2, in less than 2 months!! What to get now? Any suggestions other than hid?

I keep replacing one ever month or so, which equates to about 2 months lifespan. Funny, the silverstars in my truck are now a full 2 years old and they are fine. weird, I almost think something is up with the protege wiring. If one goes out again I will go back to stock bulbs... whether I'll save up for HIDs who knows.

I hope to god you are being sarcastic! Anything other than HID and Sylvania.
They've lasted a long time and are white. Better than silverstars..

still running stock! theyll go soon im sure. 35K strong.

Im just like sp33d ive tried like every other brand even soom japaneese ones... big wast of money ive never been happy with stock.

PIAA? Plasmaglow have a 10 yr warranty. You need to turn the headlights off before you shut the car off and turn your car on before you start the car. Reason being it prevents electrical surges to the headlights which are sensitive to this power surge.

The APC superbright are good. Just upgrade to HID and when you blow a bulb you will need a Doctor to calm you down, rather than an Internet Forum! :)

I have the silverstars - going on over a year now. No problems.

Oh, and yes - the passenger side is a pain in the ass.

Good thing I went tnad checked this post first..I thought silverstar can last longer than the JDM type R light bulbs im using.Mine recently blow off after almost a year on my speed and more than a year on my other mazda. This type r i have has the 4350K for less than 10 bucks. I guess ill stick with this one.

oh, and for whatever it's worth. My stereo has the capability to dim my headlights - and usually does at least once or twice a week. I've got a 1 farad cap, and it still happens - though most people think I'm crazy and say they don't see it.

So my point being that my headlights are dealing with a sporadic fluctuation in power - and a repeated one at that. They still work fine.

Running CEC (Korea) H7 halogen 70W lows and PIAA Xtreme White 9005 highs. CECs last--first set of 55W are still good after a year. Thinking PIAAs were better, I pulled 'em. PIAAs sucked. Pattern was terrible, focus nonexistent and they couldn't touch my CECs in any area. PIAA claims on the package 55W-->110W. I said to the vendor 55 watt-->110 what? I told him to put 'em in his '5 and get back to me, but refund my money. CEC 55W lows replaced with 70s for greater reach.

CEC's cost about 700% less than PIAAs and 400% less than SSs. No going back on the low beams--terrific spread, great focus and more than ample light. Next move is HIDs. Period.

And as I said elsewhere, stay the hell away from 100W+ stuff--110, 120, etc. You could find yourself like the M3 owner who pulled into my dealer couple of weeks ago with LH housing back half melted, RH housing badly warped, blown relay, and burned wiring and harness. Cost: $1480+ and no warranty. Non-stock wattage bulbs.

Be careful.(no)
