Fresh Tranny Fluid!

no it doesn't have the friction modifiers, my tech put half a quart of the mazda stuff in to account for this. Works great for me.

Is the MT-90 the same specification as the stock Mazda Tranny fluid?

The mt-90 is the correct oil. What you need to look for in the oil is that it has to be 75w90 and GL-4. There are only two 75w90 gl-4 oils out there that I know of, redline and amsoil. YOu will find plenty of 75w90 gl-5 oils out there but these are for differentials only not for trannys.

If I was to ask my Mazda tech to switch out to this particular Redline Fluid, would it be considered out of spec and possibly bring me trouble down the road.

$50 for the work at the dealer and $30 for 3 quarts of redline mt-90 sythetic transmission oil, total cost $80. Results Priceless. Shifting is silky smooth now and the fluid warms up quicker in colder weather. Even my tech commented on how well the fluid works. You need to order it online, I got it from amazon. Most ms3 owners are using this fluid with great results.

interesting

I believe that it would be fine with the tech since he would probly check the weight and the gl rating on the bottle and see that they are correct.

yup, that's what you want. Any reason you don't put it in yourself? I highly reccommend doing your own fluid changes. That way you know it's been done right.

I dont have the tools or the space to do it, I live in an apartment community as well. I wish I could do it myself but unfortunately I have two left thumbs.

So i called around looking for some MT-90 fluid and low and be hold the Street Unit guys were right here not too far away from me. They actually brought me the 3 quarts that I needed directly to me!

Awesome customer service! I cannot say enough good things about them simply from that stand point! I cannot wait to get my tranny fluid changed this friday at the dealership!!!

Yeah the customer service at Street Unit is fantastic! One of the guys there actually delivered my SU motor mount personally just because I wanted it that day.

LOL, damn I thought I was special! MS3077 are you local to Orlando by the way?

Hey there Guys, just wondering what a standard transmission fluid change will run me and if most think it is necessary or beneficial? I have approx. 5000 miles on the car now and just switched out my oil to Castrol Full synthetic, I have had a few gear grinds going into 3rd and wanted to put some fresh fluid in there and remove any slivers of metal.

Any bad effects of changing out tranny fluid so early?

I changed mine at 1K miles with Red Line MT-90.
It did wonders for my shifting...really smoothed it out.
Its done that in all my cars/trucks...

Very cool, did I happen to meet you at the Tuesday night meet at waterford? I would love to see how your car drives with the Cobb SRI or an intake in general.

I am very anxious to see how it feels once I change out the fluid! I have noticed under heavy acceleration I grind into third somethimes.

That is generally do to the soft OEM (stock) transmission mount.
I used to have notchiness shifting into 3rd gear under hard accelerations when I had my stock mount. When I upgrade to the TRZ Poly, my shifting became solid and positive...

Sorry to say, but the fluid change will not help that...

do you think an upgrade like the Corksport mount may help my situation also? Did you do the mount yourself by chance?

The Cork Sport inserts do help, though most owners upgrade to a more firm mount down the road. You can definitely try the inserts, though they will not provide the positive feel of the TRZ mount...unfortunately, with such positive feel, comes vibes... The poly is not too bad once it breaks in, though you will feel vibes during A/C functions and 2500 rpms.

I would suggest to ride in somebodies MS3 with these setups if you can.

I was scared of vibes...but I'm willing to live with slight vibes for the awesome performance... It also helps put the power to the ground...your head will thrust back with an upgraded mount since the engine is no longer absorbing the initial torque.
